Wynton flipped through the journal. On the very last page was a shopping list with several cross-out ingredients replaced by new ingredients. Something that seemed like ham replaced by a type of bean Wynton had never heard of. Avocado replaced by apples. Milk just left for nothing at all.
Underneath it was a table filled in with information about a week of driving. After only a few seconds Wynton could see that each day included at least two hours of driving, probably to and from work, Wynton thought. For a moment he felt glad that his job lay only five minutes away from his house, a much shorter drive than his grandfather's had been.
However he soon remembered that he drove that five-minute trip, instead of walking or taking public transport. What was wrong with him? Why would he even get the idea that he would drive to something that was only five minutes away, let alone do so every single weekday?
After a few hours he went home. It was Saturday and Wynton had to go home to make next week's grocery list and dinner plan.
His husband greeted him in the doorway. "Did you find anything interesting in your grandfather's house?"
Wynton hugged his husband, Joel , before following him into the kitchen. "I actually did, in his attic. He had a journal with dated from 2192, then, later they were dated from the past, when he would have actually been alive,"
"That's ... strange," Joel got a ball-point pen from one of the cupboard drawers over the sink.
"So, what do we need to buy? Beef? Ham, probably"
"About that, maybe we could try something more, environmentally friendly?" Wynton interrupted.
"Sure, what were you thinking of?" Joel crossed off what he'd already written down.
"I don't know, maybe we could eat less meat and dairy products, or we could take public transport instead of driving?"
"Okay, sure, but what would we buy instead?"
"Marnie is a vegan, I can call her, if you want me to?"
