Just One Case (Toshinori x Naomasa)

???'s Pov

I raised my hand to knock on the door, my breathing has temporarily stopped as fear wells up inside of my stomach
'What if he wants me here to fire me'
'What if he meant someone else'
'What if..'

I finally knocked to get rid of my What if thoughts for now.
" Come in! "
I heard a voice call. Taking a deep breathe, I opened the door slowly.

What I saw, wasn't what I expected.

Naomasa's POV

I wake up hearing a voice in my room talking to someone, both feminine sounding. I opened my eyes slowly and saw a doctor talking with my sister

" He should be good enough to leave today, but he should stay off of work for a while. His leg is still healing. If he doesn't take it easy he may do more damage than good. "
I heard the doctor say worriedly to my sister

" I'll make sure he gets some rest, he won't be doing anything that can hurt him while under my watch! "
She said in such a brave voice, I couldn't help but snicker. They now looked at me, my sister's face suddenly turned a bright pink from embarrassment
" A mother hen as always, I'm fine Makoto. "

She walked over and softly hit the side of my face, her embarrassed face quickly shifted to anger
" Fine my ass, You have a broken leg! They said it was an open fracture! You know what that means, right!? "

I gave her a confused look before laughing softly
" There's a reason I'm a police officer and not a doctor, I don't know what a open fracture is. "
She gave me one last angry glare before sighing

" An open fracture is when your bone breaks and pierces the skin. "
I blinked in confusion. How did I not even notice that my leg was that bad when it happened? Adrenaline?

" Well what matters now is that he is doing great despite all the trauma that happened to his leg. He should go get his leg checked out again in about 5 weeks. "
The doctor said now bursting in to our conversation

Me and my sister nodded in unison now, our argument ceasing. The doctor now leaving the room leaving us listening to the clock on the wall ticking softly into the room void of noise.

" Has the chief talked to you yet? "
Makoto finally asked after what felt like hours of silence, I tilted my head slightly
" He has not yet, why? "

She sighed and sat down in the chair beside me
" He wants you to work that explosion case if you think you're able. I told him you shouldn't but he specifically wanted to ask you. "

My heart jumped. Why me? Why now?
" By myself? "
" Yep, He said something about giving you a chance to show your worth. "

I could finally show that I can do cases on my own! This is perfect! Nothing can stop me-
" You shouldn't do it "
Makoto said bluntly
" You're hurt, the stress may make it worse "
My excitement ended, and my heart dropped

" Makoto... you know that since forever I've wanted to prove myself. Why stop me when it's so close now? Please don't stop me now "
I pleaded to her, hoping my words would mean something to her.
