“Alicia, Alicia, wake up. Come on baby, please wake up. Come on.” Harry gently shook her now frozen body. He wiped her cold cheek with his palm and tried stroking her back to life. He turned his neck to see if he could see who did this to her, but all he saw was a dark figure running to the exit of the cemetery.

Harry I looked down at her bleeding leg and quickly pulled out his phone. After dialling the emergency number, he took his shirt off and wrapped it around her bloody leg, in hope that the blood would stop.

He cradled her in his arms, holding onto her lifeless body as tightly as he could. He could feel the faint knocks of her heartbeat against his chest and he was grateful that she was even breathing. He heard the ambulance alarms and saw the lights as they travelled up the gravel road to where they were sitting.

The truck was put into park and people came rushing over, carrying a bed to put her on. They took Alicia’s body out of his hands and he watched as they rushed her back into the vehicle.

“How do you know her?” one of the men on duty asked Harry.

“I love her, just let me be with her, please.” he begged, tears dripping from his face.

“Sir, I need to know how you know her.” the man asked again.

“I’m her step brother.”

“Okay, come with me.” The man began walking back to the vehicle and opened the back door for Harry to climb in. Harry took a seat next to Alicia and clutched onto her hand. He kissed it multiple times, whispering comfort words to her.

Soon they had arrived at the ER. Harry dropped his hand from Alicia’s and watched as they took her away from him once again.

Harry ran after the staff members and followed them into one of the rooms, tears streaming down his face.

“I need you to wait out here please.” a nurse informed Harry. He ignored her and barged into the room, running straight to Alicia and grabbing her hand again.

“NO DON’T HURT HER. PLEASE.” Harry yelled, hoping the doctors surrounding him would leave her alone.

“Sir, we promise we won’t hurt her. We are trying to help her but we need you to wait outside please.” one of the doctors pushed Harry out the door and locked it behind him. Harry watched from the window, his hands resting on the glass as they pounded her chest with steel clamps, attempting to make her now stopped heart, begin again.

Harry watched her motionless body bounce around from the impact of the volts as they go into her. He began screaming, trying to make them stop what they were doing, unfortunately they couldn’t hear him.

One of the nurses noticed Harry at the window and she walked over, closing the blinds, leaving Harry with nothing but silence to accompany him. He slid down the wall and held his heavy head in his hands, his body feeling as though it was shutting down. His tears flooded his shirt as he just sat outside her room.
