"So, are you gonna tell us what the Midnight game is?"

"Right. So, long story short," Em started, settling in the back of the Impala as Maya was in the front to help dean with directions, "it's a ritual that was used to punish people who went against the gods."

"First of all, what the hell?"

"Yeah, yeah, I'm a dumbass. Moving on."

"Second off do we know what it is?"

"It's an entity. Some people have theorized that it's a demon, but I don't buy it."

"Salt and iron rounds, then."

"Sounds good to me," Sam said.

"Maya, did you finish the game?"

"No, my friends were eviscerated and I passed out before I could."

"What does that have to do with this?" Dean asked.

Em sighed through her nose. "We might have to go in and play it with two of us to represent her friends and finish the game."

"Why?"

"Because otherwise there's a good chance that there's gonna be a bad entity in your house for the rest of your life otherwise."

"That won't suck too much. I'm gonna die anyways."

The car was silent as they pulled into the gravel drive. They all walked up to the front door, and Maya opened the door with her key. "Alright, so this is the place."

As they walked in, Sam pulled out the EMF reader. It remained quiet. "Is that an EMF reader?" Maya asked.

"Yeah. You ever used one before?"

"No, but I've seen it used on YouTube."

Dean chuckled. "Why anyone wants to watch this kinda crap is beyond me."

Em looked quite uncomfortable. "I think there's bad energy here," she said.

"No kidding," Maya said.

"Where'd you start the ritual?" Sam asked.

"Upstairs." She led them upstairs, to where there were faint blood splatters of the wall. Maya stopped in her tracks as The boys kept moving. "This is where she died," Maya murmured. "You know, I sometimes can't believe it. I wake up in the morning, expecting to hear her making coffee and chastizing me for staying up so late. I expect her to be there, sitting and reading her book, or on her laptop playing one of her games, or editing for me. I..." she sniffed, tilting her head down so her hair obscured her face. "It's my fault they're dead. "

"No, it isn't," Em said quietly.

"Yes, it was." Maya moaned. "I was the one to convince them to play this stupid game. I was the one who made her prick her finger and write her name on that stupid paper. I'm the one that was stupid enough to let her die."

"Maya, I'm not going to tell you I know how this feels, but I..." Em's voice shuddered, but she kept going, "I'm here if you want to talk, or if you just want something to cry on."

Maya sniffed. "Yeah, thanks, I guess."

They kept walking. Maya had pulled herself together enough to have a believable facade for the boys. They walked into the room where they were, and Castiel was there with them. Maya froze. "You're new."

"No, I'm actually-"

"Maya, this is Cas. He's..." Dean made a face. "Kinda old."

"I am an angel, you ass. There's no reason to be uncivil like this."

"You're an angel?"

"Yes."

"...Can you tell me where they ended up?" Maya asked after a moment.

"Who?"

"Navi Day and Aaidun Abdallah. They..." she stopped. "They were my friends."

Castiel's eyes unfocused briefly. "They're in heaven, if it is any comfort," he said gently.

Maya loosed a breath. "Thanks."

"Does Cas know what we're dealing with?"

"As much as we do."

"Ok."

"I think it should be me and Dean going in, if you go back to play it again."

"What, because you're an angel? I don't think so," Sam replied.

"What."

"Sammy, he has a point. He'd be helpful with this."

"One of them has to be me," Em said.

They looked at her. "No," Dean said.

"I understand that I'm the least experienced, but when Maya played this the first time around, it was with two girls and a guy. I think that we need the correct representation with that."

"Dean, I don't want to admit this, but she has a point."

"That's great for you, Sammy, but I don't want her to be a part of this more than she needs to."

Something shattered. The Winchester's instantly became alert, going for their guns. "Stay here," Dean ordered.

Cas handed Em a knife. "You know how to use it?"

"Yeah, stick the ghosts with the pointy end. Iron'll hurt em."

Dean and Sam came back in. Em quickly hid the knife. "Wine glass," Dean said.

Maya drew in a sharp intake of breath. "What?" Em asked.

Maya pulled up her pant leg. There was a cut that was just beginning to bleed. "That's new," she mused.

"We should get you out of here."

There was another crash. When they looked around Sam and Cas were gone. "Sammy? Cas?" Dean yelled. Ems phone started ringing.

"Hello?" She said. She put it on speaker.

"We're outside. What the hell happened?" Sam asked.

"We don't know. We're fine here, all things considered."

"Did the demon get pissy?" Maya asked.

"Maybe. At least now we don't need to decide who plays," Dean said.

"Well, we got a few hours to kill til we need to play. Imma take a nap. You guys get candles, salt, and several lighters," Em said. Something fell in another room. "On second thought, it's not the best idea to take a nap in a haunted house."

Yay Maya

She's based on my girlfriend who is hopefully going to read this.
