The room was dark and cold in the early morning. Misaki's swollen red eyes stung painfully, her wrists ached, and her neck burned. She laid down motionless on the blood soaked bed. Her tears leaked out of her eyes continually even with her eyes shut. She was alone in the cold room and her thoughts weren't coming to her head. He had bitten her. And he was violent about it. The door in the ceiling creaked as it opened and let in sunlight. It's morning... The footsteps came closer and Misaki's body screamed in pain and warning, but Misaki didn't move. He stood by the bed for a few seconds, then walked away and Misaki heard a door shut. Her eyes widened as she felt a cool breeze hit her skin. Did... Did he.. Misaki's neck burned as she sat up. The sun lit up the middle of the dark room like a ray of hope. Misaki shot up to her feet, but the room spinned and she fell to the floor. Dammit... My head.. My body... It's weak... But.. Misaki gazed up at the sunlight. I have to get out of here. She pushed her shaking body up onto its feet and stumbled over to the sunlight. The warmth hit her cold skin and her legs gave out. She looked up at it, then at the ladder that the man had kicked to the ground. I have to get out of here. She pushed herself onto her wobbly feet again and reached for the ladder, taking a glance at the door that the guy had left through. She lifted the ladder, her hands trembled and her legs threatened to bend or give out, but she grit her teeth and lifted it. She laid it against the exit and gathered her breath. Come on. I can do it. I know I can. I will get to Roku. Misaki pulled her body up the ladder, no matter how much her body weighed her down, she sweated through it and dragged her body up. She found herself on the ground of the wheat field. She pulled herself onto her feet again and looked around. Her eyes were shutting, her world spun rapidly, her legs seemed as if they were made of lead and her face dripped with sweat and tears. He didn't seal her neck like Roku had, so her neck bled violently when it opened. Roku... Please rescue me... I'm sorry. I'm sorry I said those things. She fell to the ground and her eyes shut. "So please.... Come back.." Her world turned black and the ray of sunlight faded away.
Misaki only had short flashes of consciousness for a long period of time. She would wake when the man would bite into her, or when her wrist snapped. Misaki found comfort in the darkness of her sleep. And when she could, she would stare at the sunlight that was let in for long periods of time. When Misaki had escaped, the man had twisted her ankles so that she couldn't walk. So she spent her days in the darkness of her dreams, passing out whenever she woke. Then at sometime, Misaki opened her eyes and found herself in arms that she didn't recognize. She looked up at the person and found a guy that was near Roku's age. He had longish black hair that shined brilliantly and glowing yellow eyes. He had small stubble of a mustache and around the edges of his cheeks. He looked down at her and he smiled boyishly. Then her world went black again. Who was that? Is he going to hurt me? Was I a present to him? Or.... Did he rescue me? Misaki woke up again and almost her whole body was bandaged. Her ankles, wrists, neck, forehead, and upper arms were all covered in bandages. Her eyes no longer stung and she struggled to sit up. A hand touched her back and helped her up. Misaki turned and squinted her eyes. It was the same guy. He smiled at her. "Hello, how are you feeling?" "Where..where am I?" "You're at a survival shelter." "Huh? Survival shelter?" "Its not an official shelter, just a group of survivors accepting new people." "What... What happened?" "You were found in a wheat field. Although from your wounds, I can tell that you weren't alone." Misaki struggled to remember. When did I get up to the surface again? She frowned at the guy. "What... What are your intentions with me?" "Intentions? Uhhmm...... For you to survive and be happy? I don't know, that's a tough question." A tear ran down her cheek. He seemed to freak out. "Wha.. Wait, don't cry! What's wrong? Does something hurt??" He assessed her body again as she wiped her tears. "Can... Can I trust you?" He seemed to pause at this. Then, realizing what hurt, he spread his arms out. Tears ran down her red cheeks and she climbed into his arms. She cried against his chest. I shouldn't trust this guy. I just met him. But.... But.... He seemed to understand as his hand brushed Misaki's hair. "My name is Mike." Misaki sniffed and took a breath in. "Misaki." She felt him nod. "Nice to meet you Misaki. Don't worry, you'll be okay. There's no more danger." His hand seemed so gentle and careful compared to what Misaki had been touched by for so long. She buried herself in his arms and cried till her eyes no longer had tears.
"Uhhmm.... Misaki..." "Hm?" "You can let go of me--" "I won't." Misaki wrapped her body around Mike's body. He sighed. "Misaki, I'm just going outside." "Then take me with you. Problem solved." "You're injured, I can't take you out of the nurse tent." "Then stay. Another problem solved." "Misaki! ~~" "No~~~!" A girl walked in. She had tiny blue eyes and short black hair. She smiled at them cutely. "I see you two have gotten comfortable around each other already." Mike looked back at Misaki. "Maybe a little too comf-" "Shut up Mike." The girl laughed as Mike struggled to get away from Misaki. The girl sat down in front of them. "Your name was Misaki right?" Misaki nodded, still clutching onto Mike. "Where was that place that we found you in? Were you always there? If not, how much time did you stay there? What are those injuries from? Were you treated badly? Did you have someone special to you?" Misaki flinched at the last question. Mike noticed. "Lora, stop being snoopy." Misaki let go of Mike and held the tears back. She smiled. "Yes. I had someone special. I was kidnapped and treated very badly. I...I would like to go back to where I was." "I see..." Mike pat her head. He smiled at her with his boyish smile. "We'll get you back." "But... But... I don't know how to get back..." "Don't worry about it Misaki. We will get you back." Misaki saw the determination in his eyes. The yellow warmth in his eyes reminded her of the ray of sunlight. Her eyes leaked and tears ran down her cheeks. Mike panicked again, wrapping his arms around her and assessing her body for reopened wounds. Misaki just cried and smiled against his chest. Roku... I found another ray of sunlight. Hopefully, I will be home soon. I just hope this ray of sunlight is enough.
