I got dressed up and ready to go to the clubhouse. Now that I pretty much get along with Tara, I won't feel like the odd woman out and I'll have someone I can hang out and talk to.
I parked in the driveway where most of the cars were. Loud rock music was coming from inside the clubhouse. I was a bit surprised everyone was inside rather than outside, but only a couple of guys were outside hanging out by some benches. I casually walk in and see the room at its capacity. I didn't know that the Sons were as large as they are. It was a bit overwhelming walking inside a room filled with a bunch of bikers whom you don't know. I quickly found Gemma who always seems to stand out in a crowded room.
"Hi Gemma."
"Oh hi, didn't know you were coming."
"Neither did I."
"Jax invite you?"
"Yep." I walked to the bar and sat down.
"I remember you."
"Hi. Chuckie right?"
"Yes." He then proceeded to serve me a drink. Sitting next to me was Clay. I wondered why he was all alone.
"Clay?" I said to try to converse.
"Jax's neighbor, Marilyn. We met once." I said and put my hand out to shake it.
"Oh yeah I almost fried your brains." He said with a cigar in his mouth and a big smile.
"Yes, yes you did." I didn't know what else to say so I took a sip of my drink.
He sat closer to me.
"I heard about the boyfriend. Is he going to be an issue?"
"I already talked to Jax earlier. Not my issue anymore." He didn't say anything and neither did I. He got up and walked away. I felt extremely left out. Tara was nowhere to be seen.
"There's my favorite neighbor."
"Hi Jax." I said as I gave him a nice friendly hug.
"Where's the wife? I was kind of looking forward to seeing her tonight."
"At home with the kids." I kind of retracted back when he said that.
"She didn't want to come?"
"Nah Tara isn't into this kind of stuff. Specially after we had Thomas."
"I'm sorry Jax I can barely hear you."
"Let's take it outside. Smokes on me." We both walked outside to some benches were the previous men were. He pulled out his pack and handed me one.
"How old are your kids?"
"Abel is 4. Thomas is 1."
"Wow. Abels big. So you and Tara have been together all these years?"
"Abel is not Tara's son."
"Wait what? Really?"
"Junkie mom."
"Guess that explains it. What we're you doing with a junkie? Are you a junkie too?"
"If there's one thing you ever need to know is that I don't shoot up crank." He said as if he was annoyed.
"Sorry I didn't mean to offend you. I guess I'm surprised."
"This was before Tara came back. I was lonely, she was lonely. Got married, kind of just happened."
"Wow. Was Abel born okay?"
"No. Kid nearly died."
"Sorry you had to go thru that."
"It's in the past now. Tara takes care good care of him as if he were her own. He's healthy."
"What about junkie mom?"
"Wendy." He corrected me. "She sees him now and then when she can. She's slowly becoming more sober."
"I haven't used crank in over 10 years. Best decision of my life." The look in Jax's face was as if his whole world stopped after I said that.
"What?" He said confused and shocked.
"Yeah I was hanging out with some bad influences at the time."
"What else are you hiding in there?"
"Guess you'll never know." I said and I put out the cigarette.
"I'm feeling a bit tired, I think I'll go home now."
"You just got here."
"Yeah but you're the only person I'm talking to."
"Do you want me to show you around?"
"I thought I was in the mood to meet people but I guess I'm not. I kind of just feel like isolating." He told me to follow him so I did.
We ended up in the roof of his clubhouse.
"I come here and I read. It's the only place where I can find peace. Take as long as you need." He said and left. It was very peaceful even though the loud music kept playing. I liked it up here. My mind felt clear, I could hear myself think loud enough to wipe away the music.
