Aaliyah

"What do you mean we can't see him?!" I slammed my hands on the desk.

"Ma'am, I'm gonna ask you to leave if yo--"

"I ain't going nowhere!" I raged.

For 2 hours, this lady has been telling me she doesn't have an update on Aubree and has been being rude to everyone that came to this counter.

"Now, you talked your shit to everyone else but I'm not the one. I'll jump over this counter and knock your lace front back." I threatned her wide ass.

"Aaliyah! Come on, let's sit down!" Evelynn pulled me away.

"I just want to know what's going." I tried to keep from crying anymore.

My face was raw from me roughly wiping it, my eyes were puffy and my head was throbbing.

"Let me go and see if anyone else can tell us something." She squatted down in front of me.

I nodded and she walked off.

"Look, you know my boy is good, he's tough." Amari tried to console me.

Horrible job.

Over the course of the next 2 hours... I was a wreck.

"Aaliyah." Luke gently called me.

I looked up at him and he looked as if he had news.

"He can be seen but only by three people." He helped me stand on my feet.

"Who are the three?" I asked.

"That's for you to decide." Luke told me. "Whatever you say, goes."

Luke was allowing me to make decisions on Aubree's behalf with his full support.

I wanted to smile at this beautiful moment but I know right now, I need to think off of business and retaliation... not my emotions.

I whispered so only Luke could hear me. "You, Harlem and Amari?"

A smile slowly formed on Luke's face.

"You thinking smart, ain't you?" He teased.

"Im trying to." I smiled too.

"Aight, I got your house cleared out but it's still a mess from the party." He admitted.

"Good. I'll have something to do to occupy my time." I nodded.

"Li, you made the right decision. It's for your own safety." He put his hand on my shoulder.

I slightly smiled.

"Hey y'all, we appreciate your love and support.. I swear we do but while you're here, money is being delayed and we need to get word to the inmates that there's a reward for whoever has information to help us find the motives here." I spoke as Luke stood beside me.

"Only three people can see Aubree. That'll be Harlem, Amari and myself." Luke added.

Everyone nodded and began heading out until it was only Jas, Arianna, Valorie, Harlem, Evelynn, Luke, Amari and myself.

We all stood in a small circle, discussing private matters.

Luke was really leaving me to make decisions for Aubree on my own and while I am grateful that he has accepted me as his brother's decision maker... I am completely nervous and trying to ensure I am making the right decisions.

The men were going to see Aubree and the ladies were all going to their homes.

Harlem and Valorie were having a private conversation, Evelynn and Amari seemed to be in a serious conversation, Jas and Luke were obviously discussing sexual plans and Arianna was yawning.

It was bittersweet.

The love and support that everyone gathered here with, in a 30 minute notice was unbelievable but the purpose of the gathering made me realize this group needs more happy memories.

I approached Luke with my idea.

"I'll meet you in the car." Jas told me as she was walking away.

"Hey, another idea." I began.

He looked at me, waiting for me to continue.

"Can we have like a cookout or something?" I asked.

"Depends, who is 'we'? He raised his eyebrow.

"The whole gang." I told him.

He laughed a little. "Where is this coming from?"

"Y'all only gather during sad occasions--"

"That is definitely true." He cut me off, causing me to laugh.

"I just want to show some appreciation and love." I told him.

He nodded, I could tell he was taking in what I was saying.

"Yeah, find a building with a playground, let me know the price. Find a caterer, let me know the price and all that other shit. Make it nice." He told me.

I smiled. "You support me?"

He rolled his eyes. "You're my sister, duh."

I hugged him without saying another word.

"I love you, Li. Thank you for holding my brother down." He whispered.

"I love you too, Lu. Thank you for always loving my sister, even when she's being unlovable." I responded.

"Drive safe." We released each other.

"Handle your business." I responded. "

"What? Don't I always?" He joked as we walked our seperate ways.

I walked outside the hospital and passed Harlem who I saw stop but I kept walking.

"You love em but you're leaving him in a hospital bed, stitched up, not even knowing his condition?" Harlem questioned.

I stopped dead in my tracks and turned around.

"What?" I took a few steps towards him.

He began walking again.

"Who are you to question me? Mind your fuckin' business and stop worrying about what the fuck I do or don't do. Remind me again why you're so pressed?" I snapped.

He turned around and walked towards me.

I was ready for the confrontation.

"Why I'm so pressed? Because I don't believe you've ever had my boy's best interest at heart. You're a fuckin' theif." He retorted.

That made my mouth drop a little bit but my rebuttal was about to be breathtaking.

I had to take a moment to chuckle followed by a deep breath.

"You wanna worry about Aubree so much, it's actually cute." I laughed but I quickly cut it off. "However, I handle Aubree. I take care of his several businesses that I have invested his money into. I take care of our home that he'll be coming home to. I keep more than enough money on his books. And, Yeah, I got rid of his fuckin' mini car lot, who the fuck is going to drive them for the next ten years? Shit, they'll have something newer & better by the time he comes home. I take care of his finances. So I took the money that was made off of those cars and the money from the safe, it's all in an off shore account gaining thousands in interest as we speak. So when I say, don't worry about Aubree, I mean don't worry about Aubree, I do the gotdamn keeping around here."
