"Race you to the mall!" Caela told me with a smile.
"You are so going down," I stated.
"Okay, go!" Caela ran ahead laughing.
"What the heck!" I started to chase her down, slowly catching up to her. "Not fair dude! You got a head start!"
Caela just laughed and started to run even faster. That's when the screaming started.
I looked over to my right to see a man dressed in all black from head to toe firing a gun like a wild man. The man started to shoot the windows of the mall, making the glass shatter into millions of pieces. People were running everywhere and pushing each other out of the way. There was so much chaos and screaming that it felt like a horror movie.
I heard a click and I saw the man reloading his gun. The malicious smile that I saw under his mask gave me chills. I needed to find Caela and get out of here, now!
I started to push people out of my way and moved towards the mall, which I saw Caela run into. I heard another round of bullets go off and turned to see that the masked man started to shoot people. So many people started to fall to the ground, left and right. I watched him shoot the elderly and children like there was no tomorrow. I felt like I was going to be sick but I had to push it aside because I still had to find Caela.
Once I made it in the mall I started to look for Caela frantically. Where the heck was she?
"Caela! Caela!" I started to call out but it was no use because I could barely hear my own voice over all the screaming.
The bullets stopped. I looked towards the front of the mall and saw the masked man walking towards the entrance. My breathing started to quicken and I felt my knees buckle. I fell to the ground beside a bench, frozen in place. I couldn't move.
I watched as the masked man made his way into the mall and started to fire his gun again. Why was this happening? The screaming got even louder and I wanted to cover my ears but my whole body was frozen.
As the masked man started to make his way in the mall I saw a familiar face. I tried to scream out to Calea and warn her but my mouth refused to open. I need to warn Caela! I desperately tried to get up to warn her but I was stuck to the ground. All I could do was watch.
I watched as the masked man made his way towards Caela who was hiding behind a plant. The man smiled like a predator who was hunting its prey, excited to finally eat. Then the gun went off.
I saw Caela's eyes widen in shock and I heard her gasp in pain. I tried to scream but my mouth was shut. Caela slowly turned her head in my direction and stared at me with her eyes that were slowly dimming. Silent tears started to stream down my face and I saw blood spreading on her white shirt. This couldn't be real.
Then everything disappeared and it was just me and Caela in the mall.
"Why didn't you save me?" Her voice was raspy and I noticed that the blood was still spreading on her shirt.
"I tried to!" My voice cracked. "I tried to warn-"
"Shut up!" She screamed. "You told me that you would come and meet me at the mall in an hour!"
More tears started to pour out of my eyes and I felt a wave of guilt crash into me. "Caela I-"
"If you came on time I would still be alive!"
I gasped and fell onto the floor starting to hyperventilate. "No, no, no, no, no-"
"It's your fault that I'm dead!" She pointed a ghostly white finger accusingly at me.
