SISTER SALVATORE

"Connect four!"

The sounds of old movies played in the background of the hotel room as Arabella proudly cheered. Stefan let out a groan and threw his red chip down on the bed in defeat. "Fifth times the charm." she smirked as she took apart the game set. "Wanna go again?"

"To lose again?" Stefan sat up on the bed. "I think I'm done for the night." He grabbed the remote and began to switch through the channels.

"Come on, Stef." Arabella whined as she cleaned up the chips. "Don't be a sore loser. Look, I'll even let you win." she shined her best puppy dog eyes.

Stefan turned his sister and chuckled before looking away, "Worked when you were seven, not anymore."

"Fine." she mumbled in disappointment before placing the board game pieces away. "Can you at least choose something good to watch? No more cooking shows."

"Who told you you make the rules?" Stefan argues. "Besides, that show was good. The single mom won the competition for best three tier cake."

"Um, it's my room, my TV, my rules." Arabella stated as she threw the game packaging on the floor. "You're more than welcome to go back to your full sized bed and watch TV there."

Stefan examined Arabella's king sized hotel bed before shaking his head and pursing his lips, "No, I think I'm good here."

"That's what I thought." she replied as she took a seat next to him on the huge bed.

"Why did I get the crap room?" Stefan asked as he examined Arabella's suite. "You have everything and I have a hair dryer."

"Well you need something for your hero hair, don't you?" Arabella joked as Stefan threw an M&M at her. "You're asking the wrong person, brother. I didn't book the room, I just enjoy it."

"You know why he gave you the bigger room." Stefan asked, changing the tone of the conversation. Arabella shifted her eyes to look at him before turning away, trying desperately to have this conversation. "He — oddly enough — has a soft spot for you. He treats you like you're— "

"Let's not talk about it." Arabella cut him off with a warning smile on her face.

"Arabella —"

"Stefan." she spoke his name. "I said drop it." Arabella couldn't allow herself to have feelings for Klaus let alone speak about them. She didn't want to bring them to life, but she knew desperately inside she couldn't hide from them forever.

Stefan noticing the sharp tone in his sister's voice, just nodded his head and chose a movie. He couldn't help, but feel protective over his little sister, especially towards Klaus. He didn't want Klaus to have any feelings towards Arabella. She deserved more than him, but then again, who was Stefan to say what she deserved? He left her to die years ago.

As the silence grew between them, they just laid and watched movies together, avoiding the thick tension between them.

As The Boy In The Striped Pajamas ended, Arabella wiped her tears and sniffled loudly. She turned to Stefan and noticed he was fast asleep, which he tended to do whenever he watched movies. Still crying, she placed her slippers on and got up, heading outside so she wouldn't wake him.

Once she closed the door, she wiped her tears with a tissue and wrapped the robe around her. She sighed as a breath of fresh air blew past her. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes, only to reopen them to the sight of a piano.
