On a nice Friday morning in a nice house in a nice little town Dylan and his mom sit at the kitchen bar window for breakfast. "Want any eggs?" Sarah asks Dylan as he munches on some bacon. "Ehhh.. sure." Sarah holds the pan of scrambled eggs over Dylan's plate and scoops some off for him. She then takes the pan and sets it back onto the stove. "You have a few
Weeks before you graduate. Aren't you excited?" "Well sorta. I don't really feel like getting a job though" Dylan utters. "Oh come on, I know your wanting to take Nicole somewhere soon so you'll need the money." Sarah playfully spouts. "You know we aren't dating right? So why do you keep saying these things?" Dylan Gets annoyed. "Oh you know I'm just teasing you." Dylan remains silent.Dylan's dad walks into the kitchen in his work clothes, however, his hair is all disheveled. "Joseph you for got to brush your hair." Sarah sternly states. "I didn't forget, I just didn't have time. I'm running late." He grabs his tumbler that was set out on the counter to dry and fills it with the freshly made coffee his wife had made for him. Joseph walks over to Sarah. "I've got to go." He kisses her and begins to leave. "Not going to eat breakfast?" "Don't have time, but I will take this." Joseph takes a slice of toast off of Sarah's plate and takes a bite. "Hey... that was my toast." Sarah playfully pouts. "Oh come on." Joseph says in a apologetic tone. "I'm just messing I can make more." She leans up and kisses him on the cheek. "You better get going, or you'll be late." Joseph sighs. "All right." He walks to The door. "I'll see you when I get off work. I love you." "I'll look forward to it. I love you too." Sarah replies. Joseph leaves the house and shuts the door behind him.
Dylan stands up and grabs his plate. He walks around the kitchen bar window into the kitchen, putting his plate in the sink and rinsing it off. When he finishes he grabs his backpack and keys and heads to the door. "Leaving so soon?" Sarah asks. "Yeah I've got a club meeting this morning." "Alright then, I'll see you after school. I love you." "Love you too mom." Dylan leaves the house. Sarah sits alone to finish her breakfast.
The elevator dings and then the door opens. Joseph steps out and walks over to the punch clock to clock in. "Morning Joseph." "Morning Deb" Joseph replies to the secretary. "Another busy day of data entry, huh?" Deb attempts to start a conversation. "Yep." Joseph replies halfheartedly. He walks over to his office and opens the door, walks in and shuts it behind him. Setting his brief case on his desk he takes out his laptop. On the screen is a login page, "ARA Admin login" displayed above is the ARA logo and under neath is "Artifact Relocation Agency". Just as he enters his user ID and password the Power in the office building goes out just before he hits enter.
There's a loud bang and the sound of shattering glass. After a few moments the power returns. The workers in the stand up and look around at each other before noticing that Joseph's office door is broken down. The windows are shattered and glass is laying on the floor around the outside and inside of his office. Paper files and drawers of his desk flung open. Joseph is gone. His laptop is also missing, and all the things on his desk are on the floor. A small framed photo of Joseph and his family lay on the ground. The glass shattered and the picture lays halfway out of the frame where Joseph's head would have been has ripped.
A short while after this occurred, back at Joseph's house Sarah is folding the laundry while watching tv. When she hears a the doorbell. "I wasn't expecting anyone today was I?" She thinks out loud she sets the piece of clothing she had in her hands on the couch beside her and walks to the door. When she gets to the door she opens it. On the other side of the door way stands a human and Demi-human cop. The human speaks up "I am officer Truman and this here is my partner officer Roberts. You are Sarah Parker correct?" The Officer says in a almost unchanging voice. Sarah begins get nervous unsure why the police were at her door. "Your not in any trouble. However, there is something we need to talk to you about. May we come in m?" Truman firmly asks. "Oh uh yeah." Sarah let's them in.
At the same time the police talk to Sarah Dylan is in history class. The history teacher is giving a lecture about the ancient war between the elves and the humans. "As your may know, humans can't control magic. However some other species can. The ones that could control it the best were none other than the elves. The elves felt sorry for the humans as they could use this power, so they imbued objects with magic power. These were known as artifacts. These objects could allow humans to do what the elves could but in a slightly different way..." The intercom interrupts the teacher. "Dylan Parker your needed in the office. Bring your things". Everyone looks at Dylan. Dylan wasn't paying attention and instead he was scribbling something down in his notebook. The teacher raises his voice to get Dylan's attention. "Ahem! Dylan. Your needed in the office." Dylan snaps back to reality. He soots up and looks around. "Don't forget tour binder." The teacher reminds. "Right." Dylan says quietly as he grabs his stuff and leaves. As he walks down the hallway he thinks to himself. "What is it this time?" As he reaches the office he notices his mother through the window sitting in one of the waiting room chairs with her head in her lap. He opens the door and walks in. Dylan's mom raises her head to see who it was that came in. When she does Dylan can see that she's been crying. Tears run down her face dripping off onto her shirt. She stands up and hugs him. While crying she says to him "Dylan your father... Joseph.. he's gone..." Dylan's eyes widen and his jaw drops in shock.
