Emma walked out of the school along with every other student. The school day was over and she was pretty glad. It was her final year in high school and she felt conflicted about it.
Unlike most of her peers who were ready to move away from boring old Summerville, she did not want to. A huge chunk of her life was here and she was not willing to give it up. It was pretty selfish on her part considering that her boyfriend was ready to pack up and start his life somewhere else and she was sure those plans included her, but that wasn't quite the case in her head. She was yet to tell Liam about it.

Emma finally reached her red 2018 Kia Sorento. It was parked in its usual spot next to Liam's black 2013 Mustang GT.
It was thanks to Liam and her mom's money that Emma could afford a car like that. She bought it for herself for her 16th birthday. Her mother was not using the money because of her current condition and Liam managed to get the car on a cheaper price. As a racer, he knew the right people when it came to cars.

Emma looked back at the entrance of the school. It was almost empty and Liam was not out yet. They were supposed to grab lunch together.
After a few more minutes of waiting, he finally walked out of the school.

"Hey. I'm sorry I'm late." Liam said. He placed a quick kiss on Emma's lips.

She smiled as the blood rushed to her cheeks.
"It's okay. Should we get going? I still have to pick Emmett up."

Liam ran a hand through his hair.
"Uhh. I can't. I just found out I'm on the tutoring program and I start with eighth graders today."
He explained with disappointment.

Emma chuckled at Liam's pouty sad face. "Don't worry. It's no big deal."

Liam leaned down to kiss Emma on the lips.
"I'll make it up to you. I promise." He said and walked off.

Emma smiled to herself and got into her car.
She appreciated Liam trying to make up for lost time but it was not necessary. Their relationship was so easy that when responsibilities got in the way of dates or hang outs, it was understandable. They put each other first but when something important came up, they would compromise.

After Emma picked her little brother Emmett up, she drove to Ruby's Milkshake House for lunch. It was a diner that served burgers and shakes and it was located away from the main town of Summerville. It had black and white tiles, white walls and red booths and tables. It was Emmett's favorite eating establishment.

"Are we going to see mom after this?" He asked not looking at Emma, instead he was looking at the fry he just dipped in his chocolate milkshake.

"Of course we are." Emma said with a smile. "But you know the rules, if dad asks...."

"We were at the library." Emmett finished off.

"Good." Emma grinned in satisfaction. She did not like the fact that she was making her little brother lie to their dad but it was the only way they could see their mom.
"Now finish up so we can go."

"Isn't Liam coming?" Emmett asked looking up at Emma. His big brown eyes looking deep in hers.

She shook her head. "Not today. He is busy."
Emma looked at her brother who continued eating his fries and downing his milkshake. She noticed how his curls were getting too long to the point of almost covering his eyes and the freckles on his cheeks were starting to be more visible.

The door that led to the kitchen opened and Emma saw a familiar face. Marcus Williams was behind the counter buttoning up the diner uniform which was a red button up shirt with Ruby's Milkshake House embroidered in white, and black pants.

For all the times she frequented this diner, Emma never saw Marcus in it.

"I'm done." Emma heard Emmett say.
She gave her brother a small smile and then put the glasses and plates together on the tray.
"I'll be right back okay?" She said to Emmett who just nodded.
