As Mr. Bennett and I walk back to my mother's office, Mr. Bennett ran into a scientist he knew and started a conversation. We had stopped by the room next door to the supply room further into the facility. With Mr. Bennett distracted, I could sneak down there, but I was nervous being a little kid and all.

A few seconds later, I heard gunshots and a scream for help coming from the supply room. I knew instantly who it was.

"Mom!"

I yell, running down the steps as fast as my little legs could go. I could hear Mr. Bennett calling my name, but my heart was beating so loudly I couldn't hear what he was saying.

I got to the bottom step and stopped in my tracks. Mr. B had stopped behind me and grabbed my hand to pull me back.

There, lying on the floor, was my mom. Lying still. As drops of blood dripped from her chapped lips.

I was so sad, I couldn't speak. I couldn't even cry. I stood there in silence, until Mr. Bennett squeezed my hand in reassurance.

"Come on, Gabrielle. We need to leave and contact authorities, right away"

Mr. Bennett said, pulling me along.

The assassin who killed my mom knew we were there and shot at us. Mr. Bennett was quick to save me, by pulling me back even farther to avoid me getting hit by a bullet. Instead of me getting hit by the bullet, it missed and hit my soda, puncturing the aluminum.

"M-my soda!"

I yell as my soda spills to the floor.

Mr. Bennett ran out of there, clutching my wrist.

"I'll buy you an entire pack of Sunkist once we get this situation cleared up with the police. But for now, just drop it!"

I glance back at my mom, and there she was, standing next to her corpse, waving goodbye.

"You like Sunkist too? I have a dog named Sunkist! He's the perfect dog!"

Tommy says, rambling on about how perfect his dog is.

"Heh y-yeah"

I say, wiping a few tears that fell as the story was finished.

"Wow. I'm so sorry about that"

Gordon says, looking down.

"It's okay. I've been through worse"

He frowns.

"No woman such as you should experience any of this!"

I smile.

"Thanks. I'm glad I found you guys when I did. I don't know how much longer I would've lasted alone"

I say, looking at the ground.

"It's okay, Gabrielle! We're your new friends and we will be here for you!"

Tommy says, putting a hand on my shoulder.

"Thanks guys. You all are awesome"

Everyone crowds around me and we all engage in a group hug.
