MOMENTS IN TIME // CHAPTER 20

"Brooke!" A red-headed girl ran up and wrapped her arms around me, burying her face into my shoulder. The blond and I had just walked into a McDonalds, and everyone was staring at me.

The guy who was talking to me before the blond came was sitting at a table, frowning. He sighed in frustration and ran his finger tips through his curls, then looked away. There were others there too, but none of them were familiar to me. The red-head pulled away and was smiling at me.

"Are you Brooke?" I asked, feeling guilty. The girl's smile fell a little bit, and she glanced at some of the people staring at me.

"She doesn't remember anything." The blond said, walking up behind me. "But, um, we do. Right, guys?" He smiled nervously then looked at me. "Your name is Natalie."

"It is?" I bit my lip. The blond nodded. "Then why does everyone think I'm Brooke?"

"You and Brooke just look a lot alike, that's all." The red-head smiled sadly. I had a feeling that something was up, but I couldn't tell what, so I just went with it. The blond leaded me to one of the tables and I sat down in a chair next to a guy with dark eyes and hair. He offered a half-hearted smile.

The blond decided to introduce everyone. "I'm Nathan. The red-head is Leslie. Curly over there is Hunter. The one with the quiff is Zeke. That guy right there with the brown hair and blue eyes is Niko. And that one with the birthmark on his neck is Alex." I gave a slight wave to all of them.

Leslie set a flyer in the middle of the table. "There's a dance tomorrow at the Funky Buddha. It's a Masquerade Dance, y'know, the ones where you put on a mask. You have to come with someone else or else you can't come in. So I was thinking we could all go together!" She smiled and waited for someone to say something. "It'll be a lot of fun. Please!" She begged.

The boys started to groan but Alex nodded. "Sounds good to me. I'll go." He looked at all the others then back at Leslie. "But only if you'll be my dancing partner." Leslie started to giggle.

"But we don't have costumes." Hunter complained.

"So we buy some. We can go buy some after we get done here." Leslie shrugged.

"Okay." Nathan grinned and looked over at me. "Br- I mean Natalie, will you go with me?"

"I don't know..." I whispered, blushing.

"Please!" He whined.

"I'm not a good dancer. At least, I don't think I am." I whispered.

"Neither am I. We can be not-good-dancers together." Nathan started bouncing up and down in his chair.

I sighed. "Okay. I'll go."

"Yeah buddy!" Nathan shouted, punching his fist into the air. Hunter frowned at us, but when he noticed I was looking, he quickly looked away. Something was wrong, and I wanted to find out what.

"Natalie, you come with me and we'll find our costumes. That way the boys can look for their own." Leslie smiled and started to practically drag me out of McDonalds.

But I was determined to find out what was wrong with Hunter.

Right after I got done going costume-shopping with Leslie.
