Loki's been out for almost twenty four hours. I sit at his bedside now. It's been decided that since Loki will be confused when he wakes up he has to be restrained to the bed for everyone's safety. I hate it but it's the smart thing to do his last memory was something to do with heat, that's sure to dig up some shit from his past and scare him. When Loki's scared he's dangerous... just like me.
After I confessed to Thor my doubts about the doctors ability to treat Loki he explained that I shouldn't be worried. The doctors know what they're doing because of the war Asgard had with Jotunheim over a millennium ago. Asgardians had to figure out how Jotun biology worked in order to fight them and in order to treat any injuries the prisoners they took may have had. All that knowledge is still easily accessible to the doctors today.
This was a relief to hear and brought me comfort. I've also been comforted as well as pleasantly surprised by the amount of concern our fellow Avengers have shown. Even Tony stopped by to see how Loki was and to make sure I was ok. I assume Stark tech is how he was able to get over here so fast. Tony is surprisingly good at calming anxiety. I got the sense that he knew how bad anxiety could be.
I didn't know he had ever suffered from it but it's plainly obvious he had from the way he was able to ease my worry. He saw me sitting in the waiting room after Thor had basically locked me out of Loki's room so I'd take care of myself and warm up. I was shaking in anxiety but even though I knew Thor would have been more than willing to help I didn't bother him with it. I wanted someone to be there if Loki woke up while I was gone. Peter was trying but I was just a nervous wreck.
Tony sat with me and just started talking, telling me to focus on breathing and then when I regained a little control, sharing a very odd story that ended with him destroying all his suits. I honestly can't remember most of the details because of my mind running rampant with worst case scenarios for the current situation during the majority of the story.
I have to give him credit though because even though it was unorthodox it somehow did the trick. By the time he was done my breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure had all returned to normal levels. I'm really glad he showed up he even left a card wishing 'Reindeer Games' a speedy recovery. Many of the Avengers came by after Tony some even leaving gifts like Tony did. Some of the X-men showed up too.
Kurt came as promised accompanied by Logan, Jubilee, Mary, Laura, and Hank. I was glad to see them I needed them here. Crime never takes a break though and those that were going to stay with me here have been called away for missions. Even Peter had to go, something about a man called Otto Octavius. Things have settled down now both in the hospital and in my mind I'm not nearly as anxious as I was yesterday. My thoughts are interrupted by Thor coming into the room.
"You need to take a break."
I nod begrudgingly. I know he's right I just don't like leaving him.
"Grab some hot chocolate with me?"
Though I'm wary of leaving Loki alone I also really hate being alone in the hospital. It was different when Peter was in the waiting room too. Lo' in all likelihood won't wake up and I'm in desperate need to talk to someone when I'm not freezing my ass off in this icebox if only to fend off my more unsavory thoughts about the outcome of this situation.
He nods and we walk out the door together to the waiting area there's a coffee machine with hot chocolate packets. I make a cup for each of us. It feels good to be out of the cold. Once I've stirred them properly I sit down at a table with Thor handing him one of the cups.
"How much longer do they think it'll be?"
Thor speaks with the doctors more than I do It goes without saying that I'm uncomfortable talking to them.
"They're not sure they said it shouldn't be more than a couple of days though."
I nod.
"I just... I hope he wakes up before Sunday."
Thor looks confused for a moment then seems to remember the date. I go on.
"I was gonna get him a cake... plan things out with Peter."
"I'm sure he'll be awake before then that's four days away yet."
I'm not completely sure he seems to be completely out looking almost dead save for his chest moving slightly with each breath. Just then a nurse comes running into the room he's out of breath and looks a mess.
"He's awake."
That's the only explanation we need for his disheveled appearance. I nod in thanks and we take off for Loki's room. I guess Loki's appearance had been deceiving he had certainly been alive enough to scare the shit out of that nurse. I smile slightly to myself though I feel slightly guilty he woke up to an empty room it can't override my relief. I know he'll need time to calm down but I'm so happy he's awake and he's going to be ok.
