Name: Leah Jade Baines (B-A-I-N-E-S)
Gender: female. Most likely.
Age: 16
Year: 11
Appearance: her hair has grown out a little over the course of a month and now falls in front of her eyes. Her Peterborough United shirt is still clean; with little else to do she’s taken to washing it every other day. She has also undergone a small growth spurt and has grown an inch, making her seem much lankier. Or maybe that’s just the fact that all of them have lost some weight. Actually, scratch that. A lot of weight.
Personality: living in a small space with a group of people has made Leah friendlier and less critical. She does still zone out, but people have accepted this by now and the incidents are less frequent, especially when she feels like she is needed; someone is hurt and needs medical attention, for example. She has developed a keen sense of empathy from being with the same group of people for so long and is starting to make use of it when she can. Although she is still more of a follower than a leader, doing what she is told when she is told to (when she actually hears the instructions), she has the courage with this group to occasionally take the initiative and set up a game of ‘staff-room rounders’ to keep people’s spirits up. She remains as faithful to her presumably now non-existent sports teams.
Family and Other: Leah has, in truth, almost forgotten about her family. In the same way that she becomes attached to teams, watching them grow and improve and argue, she has become attached to her group as a whole, though she is still to form any kind of bond with many of the individual members. She continues to wonder about the football and cricket players, especially when reminded of them by somebody else’s actions; for example, Rory taking charge would remind her of the Posh captain Zakuani doing the same thing.
Relationships:
Bryers, Celica: Celica still gets on Leah’s nerves, but Leah has grown to appreciate her constant optimism and up-beatness (not a word, I know). The pair of them get along when they have to.
Cabello, Echo: out of everybody, Leah is probably closest to Echo. After Jake’s death she took over keeping an eye on her, and the pair are almost as close as sisters.
Clark, Maxxon: the pair of them tend to keep their distance from each other, though Leah would be happy for him to explain lacrosse to her if he tried.
Lynch, Xavier: although they mostly get along, Leah can find Xavier’s loud and demonstrative sense of humour annoying.
Paxton, Rory: Leah respects Rory’s decision making and authority, and will do whatever he tells her to (within reason; don’t start getting any ideas!). However, she is slightly wary of him and is getting to the point where she may be willing to argue any risky decisions.
Rierson, Cayenne: despite disliking her attitudes and knowing very little about pregnancy, Leah attempts to help Cayenne when possible, though more out of a sense of obligation than anything.
Rierson, Teddy: perhaps surprisingly, after the incident in Tesco, Teddy and Leah have struck up a hesitant friendship of sorts, helped largely by her attending to Cayenne. She finds him good for a laugh and admires his loyalty to his sister.
Stray, Marcia: Leah tends to be quite tense around Marcia; she worries that she might be the jealous type and see something more in the friendship between her and Teddy. However, as with Rory, she respects her ability to make quick decisions, and will gladly follow any orders that she gives her.
Most affected by: Jake; after that she took on looking after Echo (who was in a state over it), and the pair of them are now incredibly close. So it was kind of an indirect effect.
Weapons and Tactics: Leah still holds her trust cricket bat, which she cleans when she cleans her shirt. She does as she is told and has become quite an effective one-woman unit for dealing with small patches of zombies; she is often sent out to deal with any strays prowling around the perimeter. She is rarely frightened by them.
Jack,
Don’t worry, you didn’t disgrace yourself…
That badly.
UP THE POSH,
