Our arrival in the Cape was great. We settled in quite well, our neighbours were the sweetest and so were their dogs.
We unpacked and for once my younger sister and I didn't fight over the best bedroom. For a second I thought she was only just respecting the fact that it was my birthday after all and the least she could do was let me get the other en suite. This really was a first.
Down the corridor i hear shouting and swearing from one end to the other. Nothing new. Just Candy and Calum as per usual. One would swear this daily basis of theirs is somewhat a ritual which must be performed every single day.
" Why can't you just be like Cas! " I hear my older brother Calum yelling at Candice. Then a sudden flood of words fall over me and bring me to tears on my knees.
"Well, maybe because I'm freaking pretty and she's fat as hell. You bloody prick! " Candy yells right back at Calum who runs down my door and knocks politely.
"Cas?" He speaks in a polite yet apologetic voice. "I'd never do anything to hurt you Sia" he says once again with that calm sense in each and every word.
I open the door for my brother to enter and we have a chat about everything and especially about my alien of a little sister. "You're far too kind Sia. You're just like mum. I wish she wasn't our sister, she's too disrespectful and sadly mum and dad tolerate her crap. " my brother looks at me pitifully and I feel butterflies in my stomach.
A few minutes later, mum walks in on us laughing at a picture on Calum's ipad. "Is this how we're spending our 17th birthday Miss Cassia? " mum walks in with a wide smile on her flawless visage.
"Well, no" Calum interrupts me before the words can escape my mouth. " I'm taking her to the beach " he says with a broad grin on his face. " well then since its birthday month for missy here , allowance is doubled" Calum doesn't look too convinced when he replies with urgency " Well, mum I was actually planning on this trip being on me. I owe it to this young beautiful sister of mine for being herself . And for an incident that occurred earlier on."
My mum knows what Cal means so she forces a smile and walks out of my room and shuts the door calmly
. For sure Cal and I know what's next...
