Chapter Two
~~~~~~
As I make my way towards him, I try my best not to crash into any chairs or trip over any bags lying around. How embarrassing would that be? I can already see myself flying through air and him just laughing at me as I'm sprawled on the floor. That would be a great first impression.
What seems like eternity, I finally make it to the table without tripping over anything. He glances up at me and quickly averts his eyes to the dirty desk. I let out a low scoff. That's just great the *dang* desk is more captivating then my own face. We haven't spoken a word and I already feel like he ripped out my heart and stomped on it.
Dropping my bag on the floor, I slump onto the chair across from him. "Alright, let's get down to business." I say forcing a smile across my face.
"We really can't do that without the word can we?" He gruffly says crossing his arms.
Well, that explains why he doesn't have much communication skills. He's rude.
"I wasn't referring to the word. I need your number and preferably you're name." Which I totally knew,  but I wasn't gonna admit that.
He gives me sly smirk. "Aren't you a little forward.."
The twist that my heart felt a few seconds ago loosened up a little. At least he gave me somewhat of a smile and he even looked at me.
I can feel a blush crawling up to my face so I duck down and begin looking for my phone that's in my backpack. After I feel like the blood drained out of my face, I pop my head back up and gather all the confidence that I have and return the smirk. "Don't get ahead of yourself. We need each others information so we can get together this weekend and work on the assignment." I open the add contacts folder and push the phone towards him.
"What if I have plans?" He says pushing my phone back to me.
"What if I don't care. It's called canceling them." I retort pushing it back to him.
"What if I don't want to."
I look up to see the professor standing right beside our table giving him a hard glare.
"Well you're going to have to - this assignment is worth 60 percent of your grade. If I find out Ms. Grace did this all by herself you will immediately receive a zero and you won't be able to make it up. Do I make myself clear Mr. Cortez
I look over at Alex who sits up straighter with a sour look. "Yes. I understand, Professor Kent."
"Alrighty then. Who wants to put the hand in the hat?" Professor Kent says with a returning smile, holding out a hat with folded pieces of paper with what I assume will be the word that we have to write about in our papers.
"You can do it." I say throwing a nod towards Alex.
He looks at me for a few seconds and finally shrugs his broad shoulders. He was wearing a black sweatshirt that complimented his entire bad boy look. As he leaned forward to reach for the hat, I saw a few tattoos peeking out from his forearm. I never realized he had them because he always had on some type long sleeved shirt. Not that I noticed or anything.
Shaking my thoughts out I lean forward trying to get a better look at the piece of paper he was holding.
"What is it?"
"Trust." He says looking up.
I didn't know how close we were until then.
"Trust?" I question looking right in his eyes.
"Yeah." He says returning my stare. His eyes are so-
"It's five a letter word with so much meaning behind it. This better be the best essay I've ever read." The professor says snapping me out of thoughts. Which seems like he's been doing a lot lately.
"It will be." I say giving him nod. With that he walks off to attend to the other students.
"Okay Alex lets not make this difficult just give me your number, please." I say pushing for the third time my phone towards him.
" I guess you know my name already so you won't need that." He says looking up at me through his thick lashes with amusement dancing around in his eyes. "Which is weird because I don't recall ever mentioning my name to you. "
I throw him a confused look.
"You said you wanted to exchange phone numbers and quote on quote preferably your name" He says crossing  his arms with a lazy smirk.
Oh great. Now I have to make up some sorry excuse on why I lied about not knowing his name and now knowing his name.
"Yeah. Well, we've been in this class for about four weeks now obviously, I would know your name. Plus the professor just said it."I say retrieving my phone back after he punched the numbers in it.
"Right. Then why did you say that you needed to know my name if you already knew it? And no he didn't he said my last name." He quips back.
I let out a groan. "Does it matter? None of this is relevant to the project." I quickly send him a text with my name, so he has my number.
"It's kinda is. I don't want a liar as a partner." He says leaning back and folding his hands behind his head.
"Well, good thing we're learning the meaning of trust." I sarcastically say.
He hums and leans towards me. "Good point."
