Fear. That was the the loudest thing in Remus's mind. It screamed, screeched, shouted - that he made the wrong choice. That they will be in mortal danger again. That he may get them, or rather her, killed.
Yet the steady feeling of Tonks's hand in his calmed his furious heart. The sun dissapeared behind the mountains - the darkness started to settle. How very similar to their own minds. Nature has a strange way of coping with us.
They apparated a short way away from the cabin. Remus could see it in the distance. How the hell is he gonna do it? The plan in his mind was quite clear, yet he knew he is risking. He is risking everything. His life. More importantly, other lives. But some things in life aren't quaranteed. If they won't fight for their freedom, they'll be stuck in that cabin forever. And he dared to think no one would want that.
Tonks appeared calm. He assumed she is battling her own doubts inside. That night in the forest, it was Greyback that used the Cruciatus curse on her. It was him who caused her all those injuries and scars. And even though Tonks very much wanted revenge, Remus was quite sure she is afraid. The trauma from the pain won't just dissapear. Like the scars, it stays etched on our mind, never to be forgotten.
Greyback. Even the name put spark to his slow-burning anger. The hatred towards this man was driving him forward. After all, he has to get his own revenge too.
The old shabby building rose before them. Remus unlocked the door and led Tonks in. The cold air of the evening caused goosebumps all over his body. But he wouldn't light the fire. Not now.
Tonks was too restless to sit, it seemed. Walking to and fro, she was caught up in her troubled mind alone.
"You okay?" he asked.
"Yeah."
"Come on, don't lie," he smiled slightly," I know you aren't."
"Why to ask then?" she offered him a bitter smile.
"Manners," his mouth curved into a grin as he used this word again. Manners. He always wanted to be a gentleman.
"What about you?" asked Tonks," Are you okay with everything? Afraid?"
"Honestly? I am afraid," he admited," but I believe it'll be fine. After all, I've got the best auror as my protector."
The last statement made Tonks smile -and even when the light was dim, he suspected the smile was followed by a blush.
"Thanks," she said," but I don't think I'll be of any use in that plan of yours."
"Come on, you do know I can't do it on my own out there," said Remus. The lightness of the conversation felt quite contradictional to the mood in the cabin. He thought it would be possible to even forgot that they're ready to risk their lives again. Risking brough in the matter of their enemies. How long will it take until the Death Eater wakes up? And when will Greyback come? How long will it take him and his men to spot the cabin? Wait... the cabin.
"Damn.."
"What?" Tonks eyed him, confused," What is it?"
The man quickly got up. How could he forget such a fundamental part of the plan?
"I forgot to undo all the charms I used to hide the cabin," he said in a rushed manner, meanwhile opening the door and taking out his wand," that plan cannot work if they won't be able to see us."
Instead of answering, Tonks jokingly slapped her forehead. Why are all men so oblivious?
Remus, seeing her reaction, paid her a smirk and walked out of the door. Waving his wand, he started to undo all the spells he used to hide their spot. They all worked pretty well. If it wasn't for them, they probably wouldn't be here anymore.
