Music is a wonderful thing. There are soooo many types of music that exist and they are all loved by at least someone in this big, wide world we dwell on. People get passionate about their music. In fact, I am willing to bet that more than half of people surveyed will fight for their music if their preferred genre is insulted.
But some people don't know the difference between defending their music and slamming other people's music.
I, myself, am a fan of alternative, punk, metal, "emo" and indie (so basically just all kinds of rock).
I am not a fan of country, pop, or rap.
Do I openly say this?
Yes.
Do I go on YouTube and comment hate on Luke Bryant videos?
No.
That's fucking stupid.
I recognize that all people like different types of music and that that is their fucking opinion. Jesus fucking christ, music is such a personal and unique experience for each person, and to say that one person's music is "shitty" or "stupid" or "weird" is like saying, "Why do you even like your mom? I don't like her."
Like, what even.
That's someone's mom. Of course they like her. She raised and cared and fed that person for their entire life. It's not the same for someone who's only seen her in the supermarket.
That's someone's music. Of course that person likes it. That music pushed them through the bad times and danced with them through the good. It's not the same for someone who's only heard that one-emo-band's-pop-hit-single in the supermarket.
I do believe, however, that music has a heavy influence on people's thoughts/emotions, and that the "wrong" type of music can change you. I don't necessarily think there is "right" type of music, but there is certainly something about music that toys with your emotions/thoughts.
Musical preferences are fucking opinions, jesus fucking christ.
Much love,
kat
