Reaching the upstairs room, Markus flipped on the light. He stepped over any clothes he had thrown, and sidestepped the dip in the floor where the wood caved in. It was an appropriate looking room for somebody his age he assumed. The fact that you could get killed and get away clean didnt leave a wide variety of trustable people. Despite the fact, Markus found that some people are nice, just dont mess with them. Brutus easily fell under this category. Smiling Markus slid the chip into the scanner of the headset. He got it as a conjoined gift from Brutus and his dad. They both spent money on it and picked it out for his 17th birthday. He was almost 18 now. The headset specialized in entertainment, and could scan the collective consciousness into a virtual world.*
Old tech but still fun. Markus watched the screen set up on his headset, telling him the new data was almost done downloading. Reckless, yes, the file could contain a virus or it could brick the headset, which would be upsetting due to sentimental value, but he wanted to know. The lack of knowledge was keeping him on the edge of his seat. Doing! Eyes ablaze with curiosity, he hastily strapped his headset on. Nothing. Nothing happened. He removed the headset and turned it in his hands. Maybe it was now forever bricked, and he'd have to buy a new one. The headset was placed on the ground and unplugged. Leaving the room, Markus decided to eat. As he walked into the kitchen he noticed a small fuzzy mammal scurry by. Great. We got those again. Little peat that chew wires and leave droppings everywhere, but they're incredibly hard to catch, so they'd have to fog the house again. Deciding to ignore it for now he decided to tell his dad when he gets home. Pulling out ingredients for a sandwich, Markus begins to zone out. His vision blurs a bit and he leans back, but once he catches himself he snaps out of it. Sighing he feels himself yawn, maybe he should sleep on the bed and not the couch tonight.
Markus finishes his meal and decides to call it a night. Trudging up stairs, he realizes that his headset was making noise. Weird he thought he turned it off, not the first time he messed up. He gently removes the plug. Shaking his head he looks around the room, it feels diffrent. Fear wound up taking control, he could tell that something was incredibly wrong. Checking his room he opened cabinets and looked under the bed. Maybe it was an animal. He hoped it was an animal. Giving up, Markus decided best course was to lock his room from the outside with a chair and sleep on the couch. Laying down let the fear sink in. Death could be round the corner of the halls, pacing in his room, or peeing in his toilet. Sitting up he felt overwhelmed. He could sleep his last tonight, he could actually die. The thought always was aware. He knew that he had a sub century life. He could die while going to work or going for a walk. The world was cruel, but he thought of that as the future, he wouldnt die until his partner was sick of him and decided to end the relationship personally. He would die being dumb with strangers. Not in a casual way, not while sleeping. His eyes flicked up to the window, the light reflection from the 2nd moon glowing faintly. Atleast he had a pretty sight.**(Think Virtual Reality but ur more likely to get motion sickness since ur conscious controls movement)**
