Dabi woke with a start not realizing he'd managed to fall asleep out in the open as he'd been watching over Cora. It looked as if someone had tried to make him more comfortable without moving him as he had a blanket draped over him and a pillow under his head. He glanced around the barren living room and felt a moment of panic as he didn't see any sign of Cora. As he leapt to his feet, Giran stepped into the living room and spotted the panic on Dabi's face.
"She's out back. I don't think she gets out very much, she really seemed to want to sit outside." Giran noted.
Dabi nodded his head, appreciating the information he'd offered and headed to the back door. It opened up to a small creaky porch, there was a small patch of fresh green grass that led to a surrounding forest keeping the place concealed from curious eyes. He relaxed as he spotted Cora lying in the plush grass. She was wearing some fresh clothes, a comfy pair of leggings and a long grey tank top. Her eyes were open staring blindly upward, a sign that she probably wasn't here.
Quietly Dabi hopped off the porch and went to sit next to her in the grass. She had some color back and looked to be feeling better. Gently he reached out and brushed a stray lock of white hair out of her face causing her to startle. He smiled as she jumped and let out a cute squeak of surprise before he felt the familiar feeling of someone looking down on him. He glanced upward and waved before looking down to see Cora smiling.
"You're awake." She smiled.
Dabi nodded, "you look like you're feeling better."
"Giran gave me some antibiotics and something else that at first made me think I was melting but now I feel like I'm floating on clouds." She giggled.
Dabi held back a laugh, he must have given her some strong pain killers. "Ah, he gave you the good stuff."
Cora giggled again and reached for him, "make grass angels with me?"
Dabi couldn't help but shake his head in silent laughter, "I'm not sure that's a thing but sure." He laid back in the soft plush grass next to her and chuckled as she flapped her arms as if she were trying to make snow angels in the grass.
"Come on, it feels all fun and tickly." Cora giggled as her fingers moved over the soft grass.
Dabi sighed and joined her in her drug induced lunacy. His hand bumped into hers and caught it, halting their flapping. He wasn't sure why he'd caught her hand and looked to their interlocked hands curiously. He remembered that she'd been hungry before and spoke up, "did you get something to eat?"
Cora nodded, "Giran made sandwiches." She smiled, "they were really good."
Dabi gently squeezed her hand in his, "that's good." He sat up and felt Cora looking on him from above. "I'm going to get something to eat, are you okay out here for a bit?"
Cora nodded again and Dabi reluctantly released her hand. He made his way back toward the safe house. As he stepped onto the porch and reached for the door it opened outward on its own. He jumped and looked up to see Giran standing in the doorway extending a sandwich to him. Dabi accepted it with a soft mumbled 'thanks' before returning to the grass.
It seemed like Cora was gone again, her eyes were open but he didn't sense her watchful presence above. He smiled and sat quietly in the grass next to her. He ate his sandwich in silence as Giran went back inside, though he'd likely never admit it to Giran, it was a really good sandwich.
