I never liked to consider myself as a nail-biter, but here I was, chewing my nails as if that was my only source of food. My gaze was fixated on the television screen in front of me and my legs rests on my mom's lap who was watching her show.

"Stop biting your nails, Val," mother's voice made me stop my current action but that didn't stop the agitation I was feeling. Eventually, I started fidgeting with my thumbs. "Valerie!"

"What?" I looked at her, dumbfounded.

"Will you stop torturing your fingers? What has gotten into you?" She asked.

"Derek and I are going to meet Sarah Malone. I'm just nervous, I guess," I replied.

"Is she part of the investigation?"

"Yes. Supposedly, Rosalind used to have her sessions with Sarah," I answered.

"You can stop being such a nerve wreck. You're gonna do great. Now, let me watch the show my show in peace. You're distracting me," I let out a small laugh and rested my head on the hand rest of the couch, resting my eyes.

I small tap on my forehead made me open my left eye to check who it was and I saw Blake's face smiling at me.

"Dude!" I jerked up from the couch. "That was- don't ever do that again."

He laughed and I just smacked him again. "Why haven't you left?"

"Derek's running late. He should be here any minute now."

As if on cue, the doorbell rang, revealing Derek on the other side of the door.

"You ready?"

"I was ready an hour ago, now I'm just desperate to leave," I muttered and was about to leave, but Blake held my hand, stopping me. I looked up at his serious look masked his previously fun personality. "What's wrong?"

"Do you trust me with Jordan? Because if you don't, I can switch with Kelly and I'm sure she'll understand," he asked.

"Jordan and Brianna interrogating a possible innocent person together? Absolutely not happening," I scoffed.

"But after I tol-"

"I trust you, Blake."

His lips tugged upwards in one of his rare smiled and I planted a small peck on his cheek. Blake has been honest with me and shared one of his insecurities with me, it was about time I told him that I did trust him and I would never doubt him.

As many people liked to say, relationship is built on trust and the both of us were serious about our relationship, so we were in it together. He was confessing things out of his comfort zone and I decided to let him in and stop hiding me real emotions.

"I'm gonna go now. Don't think about it too much."

After saying our goodbyes, I got into the car and Derek drove away.

Sarah was no ordinary person and she was definitely not somebody you wanted to play with. She had a tendency to see through people and she was very good at her job. If Derek and I wanted to get out information out of her about her client, we had to be really careful and not bluff around much.

I asked Derek if he knew how to control his body posture and not give away the obvious tension and nervousness and when he denied, I made it my job that he was informed because I could not have any one of us screw this up. Not after all the times we lost.

"- so, I'll do the talking. If that's okay with you, I mean..."

"You should probably do the talking. This is difficult for me anyway," he assured me and I gave him a thumbs up.

The car halted in front of a small clinic, painted recently in beige and radiating freshness. Sarah knew how to make people comfortable.

We entered inside and were immediately greeted with the cold air and the receptionist.

I made an abrupt stop, making Derek check up on me.

"Are you okay?" He asked, placing a hand on my shoulder.

"No," I whispered.

The receptionist was nobody other than my only enemy. I was not a person who held grudges. I always forgave people and was usually known for my "big heart." But, Lola made sure she proved me wrong and showed everybody my angry side.

I did some awful things, no, I did one really awful thing to her that ruined her reputation in school and took away her glorious experiences of high school.

"What is it?" He popped an eyebrow.

"It's not a what, it's a who."

"Lola?" He followed my gaze and asked me. "What did she do to you?"

"Nothing. Why don't you do the talking. I'll just stand here."

He gave me an 'are you sure' look and went to talk to Lola. I only heard murmurs since I was far away from the desk.

In the next minute, Derek gestured me to follow him and I silently walked but mistakenly made eye contact with Lola. Anybody would be blind if they didn't see the hatred in her eyes for me.

"Why did you do that?"

"I called her a whore during her dad's wedding," I said in a really low, ashamed tone.

"What?!"

"What? She was the one who slept with my boyfriend while I was dating him and I feel guilty now, okay?"

Derek opened Sarah's office door for me and I walked into the serene room.

"Ahh!! You guys, come in." Sarah shrieked and got up to hug us. This was one of the reasons why I didn't want to be a therapist in this town. If somebody familiar came to meet you, you were expected to be friendly and unprofessional.
