The sharp, yet dull sound of plastic against skin echoes quietly in the railcar.
“Don’t you dare try and run away from me."
“What…?"
“I know what you were trying to do. To run away from me again."
“Again?” My cheek stings and I feel it pulse with pain, a reddish mark upon my consciousness. I don’t recall where he is getting this information.
Grabbing my chin with one hand, he thrusts his face inches from mine.
“Don’t you dare."
I stare back as calmly as I can, into his wild eyes of a clouded mind. I try not to express my growing fear in the lump in my throat, but my lip decides to give up and visibly quiver. A flash of glee crosses his eyes as he sees my terror.
He continues.
“I saw you with that guy. I saw him walk into your apartment. I saw him. I saw him. I SAW HIM!” He ends with a scream, spit hitting my face.
In that instant, I contort my bruised muscles to make them move, and awkwardly punch him under the chin.
He flies backward, releasing my face. I edge back on my elbows, splinters piercing the skin, my body shaking from the exertion.
I really need my hands untied.
