vii. on the surface

'out of sight, out of mind,' they say
but hearts do not acquire amnesia
they hold our desires safe
though we're unaware, they've always been there.

'time heals,' they say
but wounds leave scars;
reminding you of the pain,
of the bittersweet memories
and efforts wasted in vain.

'feelings fade,' they say
but i see,
they never really go away;
only shrinking, like a flower of daylight
amidst the darkness of the night
pushed into the back of our consciousness
waiting, until the time is right.

we never crossed paths
who knew for how long;
i was certain my feelings faded
i thought time healed my wounds.

but why does the pain resurface when i remember you?
