Rest easy soldier another day comes
Lay your rifle in the dirt after a polish
Let it go, let your stress demolish
Lay back and reminisce the taste of the baker's dozen
Think back on times you had with siblings, friends and cousins
Let go the memories of the enemy scum
And stop adding your griefs to a sum
Lay back no more weary and be struck dumb
Surrender to laziness and let the wounds go numb
Let your forehead waves calm to a gentle sea
Let your mind picture your maiden's glee
Sound her laughter
Not the artillery shell clatter
Let it all go and suppose a happily ever after
Pay no mind to the bodies you lay rest
For that is war's cruelest test
To put those under and forget them is best
Rest easy soldier the ghost of shadows comes
Rest easy and forget your problems in rum
But if he still comes to beckon
Rest easy soldier for you now will awake at the gates of heaven
