Some time passed, and a house elf called us down for dinner. We walked down at the same time and sat next to each-other at the huge dining table. Lucius sat across from Draco, next to Narcissa. We quickly got served by a house elf, who seemed to be treated as a servant more so than a helper. We ate in silence until Lucius spoke up.
"So how school been so far?" He asked with a booming voice.
"Good." Draco replied in a soft but quick tone.
"Hope Dumbledore isn't giving you too much trouble" Lucius added with a chuckle.
I wanted to leave right then and there, because Dumbledore had given me the opportunity to attend school at Hogwarts for which I was incredibly grateful.
"So Iris, tell me where do your loyalties lie?" Lucius asked slyly.
Draco turned to look at his father, and Narcissa almost gasped.
"Dear, don't you think it's a bit inappropriate to ask this question given the circumstances" Narcissa said looking at her husband.
"She is dating OUR son, I should know if she is right for him" Lucius answered angrily.
Draco glared at his father and then looked at me clenching his fists under the table. I was stunned and definitely unprepared for this question. Draco had warned me they might ask, and said to be as vague as possible, but we didn't really go over anything I should say.
"Well go on Iris, don't just sit there" Lucius said.
I was flustered and annoyed, but I knew I had to answer eventually.
"I think I left my jacket in Draco's room" I said rather suspiciously.
"I'll help you find it" Draco said in a monotone voice.
I could hear Lucius question my antics with a scowl as I followed Draco to his room.
"Just say that you are a supporter of my parents" Draco said.
"I can't do that that would be b-betrayal" I stuttered.
"God damn it Iris, just do as I say!" Draco yelled in a voice filled with rage that made me flinch.
Tears brimmed my eyes. Draco noticed that he had made me upset.
"I-I'm sorry, Iris I didn't mean to yell" he said trying to calm me down".
I sat down on his bed and curled my feet up to my chest.
He now looked sad.
"It's the only way, I can't lose you" he said.
I let out a couple sobs but they were muffled by my legs. Draco reached out and stroked my hair. I turned to face him and he wiped the tears off my face.
"Please" he begged.
"Okay" I said in a week voice. I wiped the remaining tears off my face and went back downstairs.
"Hello sir, and hello Narcissa, I found my jacket" I said rather confidently so I wouldn't show a sign of weakness.
"Ah yes, are you ready to answer my question?" Lucius asked.
"I'm a strong supporter of you guys of course" I answered, silently cursing myself for giving it. Under the table Draco squeezed my hand.
Lucius and Narcissa chuckled.
"A toast to Iris" Lucius exclaimed, clinking a glass filled with champagne with Narcissa's.
Draco sighed in relief and looked toward me. He smiled, and I smiled back halfheartedly. He placed one hand on my thigh and rest it there.
The rest of dinner went by pretty fast. We ate and Narcissa and Lucius conversed with Draco and I about ourselves and the school years. The words I said at still haunted throughout: "I'm a strong supporter of you guys". When dinner was over I went back up to Draco's room to say goodbye for the winter.
He wrapped his arms around me and kissed me on the lips. I kissed back and told him I would miss him so much. We said our goodbyes and I took a car home, where my parents waited for me.
