The fourth day of Navratri is dedicated to the fourth form of Navdurga, Devi Kushmanda. Donning the form of Devi Kushmanda, Goddess Parvati is believed to reside in the centre of the Sun and liberate energy to the universe. The universe is represented as a cosmic egg and it is believed that Devi Kushmanda ends the darkness of the universe with her bright, energetic and divine smile. The name Kushmanda is made up of 'Ku' (little), 'Ushma' (energy) and 'Anda' (cosmic egg). It is believed that the devotees are blessed with enormous energy.
Devi Kushmanda is also known as Devi Ashtabhuja as she is said to have eight hands: her right hands hold Kamandal, Dhanush, Bada and Kamal and her left hands hold Amritkalash, Japmala, Gada and Chakra.
The 4th day of Navratri is celebrated by performing the Panchopchara Pooja and offering Gandham, Pushpam, Deepam, Sugandham and Naivedyam to Devi Kushmanda. Shringar items such as vermilion, kohl, henna and accessories such as nosepins, bangles, anklets are also offered to the Goddess.
Halwa, Malpua and Dahi are considered to be the favourite offerings and Jasmine is considered to be the favourite flower of Devi Kushmanda.
