Chapter Nineteen
Mara Collins, a woman in her sixties with a very wise expression on her face, stood in her doorway with a longing look. She seemed to be awaiting someone. Mara sensed that what was coming her way was not as usual someone how wanted to communicate with a deceased relative.
This time the purpose of visit was another. Her granddaughter will be trying to prevent it. Lucky for them Mimi was weak. Mara also grieved for her daughter but did not show it. She had seen her daughter die in one of her visions. She did nothing to prevent it as she knew that fade has to be accepted and death isn’t that bad as everyone thinks it to be.
Mara remembered a ghost she has once met in a field in Spain. It was the ghost of peasant women, she has been awaiting the return of her lord’s daughter, who’s only friend she has been. Her name had been Maria and she was sure that Esmeralda did not die nor could she still human. Maria has told her that she always sensed that something about señor Collins was dangerous.
Esmeralda waited the graveyard and was already annoyed although she has just arrives. She suspected Fred to be late again and almost expected that he had forgotten to bring Brad along. This time she was wrong, she saw Fred and Brat appear. Brad seemed to be sick. He kept breathing in and out hard.
Esmeralda dedicated a sweet smile to them; she was pleased that they were on time today. Fred couldn’t believe she was trying to be charmingly but that’s not strange as to him Esmeralda was a strange personality all in all. Brat hardly noticed her today; actually his eyesight was foggy since he left the house although it was a beautiful sunny day.
Not being noticed didn’t bother Esmeralda, as this wasn’t hangout to fool around. No, it was serious business to make plans for what she called “Justice”. Esmeralda could sense that Mara was already awaiting them. But they should not forget that she is Mimi’s grandma and witch, so being careful is very important.
The three almost reached Mara’s house as Brad fell to the ground with his gripping his chest, where his heart lay. He felt an awful sting, as if a thousand needles where shot into it and tried destroying it.
Esmeralda and Fred noticed the pain in his face, he was very pale almost chalk white. With every breath that Brad was about to take it become more and more likely that he would soon spit blood. They had to hurry or Brat would be very close to death.
Mimi had warned him and was really upset that he has started rebelling. She converted all the grieve she felt for mother in physical pain for Brad. She started to feel real pleasure doing it and it was every effective to fight grieve.
“He needs a doctor!”-Fred yelled shocked.
“No, they can’t help him. If the witch behind this wants him dead there is nothing that can be done. We must hurry!”-Esmeralda replied harshly and helped Brad.
She then dragged him with her supernatural strength to Mara’s house, regardless is Fred would catch up or not. Humans cannot run that fast and Fred might not have anything to deal with witches anyhow. It was about Brad, sooner or later Mimi will abuse of him more and more. This pain game was just a start and needed to be prevented before she gets her full power back again.
