Dark times started the moment he who mustn't be named took over the ministry.
Gwen closed her shop immediately as the government regulated wandmaking.
She lost her job, just like many others did.
Fred and George didn't sell anything during the beginning of the war.
The three of them hid in a safe place until they could come out again.
At the same time, they prepared for battle.
Ron was gone, together with Hermione and Harry.
Most of the time, the twins were worried sick.
Until the day it finally happened.
They knew Harry had been spotted in Hogsmeade.
And they weren't afraid to fight.
They made their way to the castle together, Gwen leading Fred and George with wary steps.
She was very much aware she would have to fight her former friends.
They stood in the Great Hall, right before Professor Snape, who made a cowardly escape.
Gwen was disappointed greatly.
He used to be her head of house, her favourite teacher even.
Yet he betrayed Dumbledore so greatly.
She was pulled out of her thoughts when the voice started speaking.
It felt like it was right inside her head, right in her mind.
It was Voldemort.
And he warned that many would die if they didn't turn in Harry Potter.
"What are you waiting for? Somebody grab him!" Pansy Parkinson called, causing Gwen to scoff deeply.
She stood beside Harry; wand raised at the Slytherin students she used to consider her friends.
Professor McGonagall sent the Slytherins to the Dungeons whilst the order started preparing shields.
Gwen followed Remus, helping him secure the inside of the castle.
"We might need more wands." Kingsley called.
Gwen immediately stood by their side, knowing she was one of the most powerful members of the order.
Fred and George came to help, too.
"Are you alright, George?" she asked as they watched them shield Hogwarts.
"Yes. You?"
"Perfectly fine. What about you, Freddie?"
"I'm okay, too."
They shared a big smile, casting some more protective spells.
They walked back into the castle, hearing a big commotion.
The shield was down.
Within seconds Gwen had lost Fred and George.
She was on her own now.
She fought as long as she could, shooting Stupefys at every death eater that stood in her way.
Finally, she found a familiar pair of red hair.
It was Fred, cornered by the female Carow.
She wasn't fast enough to react as a bolt of green flew towards him before the voice in her head started.
She screamed, falling in vain as Voldemort called towards them.
He retreated his forces.
The moment the voice stopped, the female death eater disappeared into thin air.
Gwen crawled towards Fred, laying upon his lifeless body as she shook him violently.
"Fred. Wake up. Please, wake up."
She yelled through her violent sobs, but he didn't move.
He was dead and she knew.
She pulled his lifeless body up, carrying him towards the great hall by herself, limping.
Her leg was still injured.
The moment she entered; Madame Pomphrey helped her.
Her teary eyes met Molly's immediately.
They laid him down on a stretcher as the Weasleys started mourning his death.
That's when she saw George, who immediately ran towards Fred.
He broke down crying, shattering Gwen's heart into a million pieces.
She finally saw the trio enter, hugging Hermione tightly as Ron mourned over his older brother.
"I saw him die. I saw him-"
Gwen called, but she chocked on her own words.
George stood up finally, lips quivering as he looked at Gwen.
She ran towards him, pressing him against her chest as violent sobs escaped both of their lungs.
George had lost a brother that night.
And Gwen had lost a best friend.
Things would never be the same.
