For a moment, there was nothing. Nothing but darkness and a shocked silence.

Then Mac and Cheese screamed - an ear-piercing shriek that echoed throughout the cavern and nearly reached the ears of the objects in the tavern nearby.

Gaty unleashed another wave of fire, this time directed forward, revealing the hoard of zombies that had suddenly begun to rush towards the objects. "Run!" she yelled.

Cake, Bell, and Bottle fled, with Bell grabbing the still-screaming Mac on the way. Eggy shot into the air and began propelling blasts of energy at the zombies, while Gaty did the same with fire. Eraser backed away while shooting arrows into the crowd, taking a zombie down with each shot.

However, there were simply too many for the three adventurers - not to mention the giant dagger in the back of the crowd. He roared loudly, sending the zombies into a frenzy. Gaty, Eggy, and Eraser were forced to flee as well, shooting projectiles behind them as they went.

The trio burst out into sunlight, panting heavily, their energy nearly spent. Gaty turned back towards the cave entrance and saw the crowd surging towards them. Placing her hands on the ground, she chanted as quickly as she could. Right as the swarm of undead would have burst out of the cave, a wall of rock broke free from the earth and sealed off the cave entrance.

A single zombie managed to escape - an undead glass jar. "Guh?" it said, wondering where all of its friends went.

Bell and Cake leapt towards the jar - it didn't stand a chance. With the swing of Bell's sword and the slices of Cake's dual knives, the jar was cut into four pieces in less than a second. The glass clattered to the ground.

It was then that they realized Mac was still screaming. Using her telekinesis, Eggy picked him up in the air and slammed him into the ground, half burying him. That shut him up.

Suddenly exhausted, Gaty sat down hard. Using her elemental magic, she drew enough water from the air to give herself a drink before looking around. Eggy was standing next to Mac, huffing angrily. Her cape had a rip in it from getting caught on a stalactite earlier. Mac himself was attempting to pull himself out of the dirt. Bell and Cake were high-fiving, and Bottle was double-checking Eraser for any injuries.

"Well, Eggy," Gaty said, finally breaking the silence. "Looks like you got the action you wanted."

Eggy said nothing, choosing to simply glare menacingly at Gaty instead.

The group of seven entered the tavern from before, sitting down at a circular table. They attracted a couple of looks. Except for Bottle, who was still as peppy as ever, they were worn out from fighting the zombies, or running from them, or both.

"So," Mac said after a minute. "Did we win?"

"Probably not." Eraser sighed, "Did you see their claws? And their teeth? They'll probably break that stone wall in no time and go right back to terrorizing the objects that live 'round here."

Bell piped up. "Not to mention the fact that they're zombies. I mean, don't zombie infections usually... spread?"

Nobody responded.

"This just makes our job more important," Bell continued. "If that hoard gets any bigger, they'll probably be brave enough to start raiding larger towns. And then whole cities. And then-"

"We get it," Cake interrupted. "But you saw how many there were, right? They might already be too powerful to stop."

"And what's with that giant dagger zombie? Why's he so much bigger?" Mac questioned.
