Chapter 37: Beginning The Battle
Orion's eyes popped open, and Andromeda stared at him, perplexed. Midnight was slowly and steadily approaching, and the moon glistened with its silver light. Andromeda followed her friend's gaze to the sides, where Team Two and Team Three stood, staring at them. Well, not everyone.
Hunter's gaze was fixed, unmoving, on a figure on top of a plateau overlooking the Place of Honor, where all the wolves who weren't royal lived. The wolf there had a coat that was grey, much like Andromeda's, and eyes that sparkled callously.
"Who's that?"
Andromeda turned around to face the wolf who had spoken, a grey-black she-wolf who looked quite young. Smiling a friendly smile, she stepped forward slowly.
"I'm not sure. It may be one of Queen Cora's close allies, or maybe... Queen Cora herself."
The she-wolf and all the wolves around her shuddered, not fond of the idea that Queen Cora, the "villain", was so nearby. Andromeda herself felt queasy at the thought of seeing her dear mother again, after she had stormed away after a fight. Her stomach churned, and she felt sick, after a sudden moment.
"You're Queen Andromeda. I'm Adanna," the she-wolf said, looking amazed that Andromeda had even acknowledged her existence. She dipped her head respectfully and stared, admiration fitting her gaze.
"Queen?" Andromeda laughed cheerfully, despite the tense battle that was to come. "I don't know about that, Adanna."
"Mhm," Orion said. "Cool, guys—" he paused, squinting—"Hunter and Sapphire are both giving us the sign. It's time, everyone." He said this a bit louder.
Andromeda crouched down at the front of the group, her tail lashing ever so slowly, painfully, just waiting for a rush of adrenaline to speed through her veins. Her eyes turned to slits, just imagining tearing Queen Cora up, piece by piece, getting revenge for all the horrible things she had done to the wolves she was supposed to nurture, and the kingdom she was supposed to rule.
"Attack."
Orion had only whispered it, but it sent the whole group charging down the mountain at full speed. By the time they had arrived at the base, the other groups had already begun to slit the throats of Cora's supporters, showing no mercy, as Cora and her supporters had done.
A white wolf, female, ran at Andromeda, only to be stopped by Adanna, who gave her a quick smile before fighting another wolf. Andromeda jumped over the dead wolf's body, only the smallest amount of pity taking up the space inside her heart, before she found herself on top of a grey male, snarling.
When the grey male saw her, his eyes widened. "You were supposed to be dead," he said. Andromeda caught an accusing tone in his voice. "Queen Cora said you'd died, and the ones who wanted to fight, me, had no choice."
Andromeda's mouth formed an "o" shape.
"You wanted to rebel against Cora?" she asked. "Why didn't you just join the rebellion?"
"I didn't think they'd win without you, and I was scared," he admitted. "But why are you calling her 'Cora?' She's your mother."
Andromeda scowled. "I don't think I want to acknowledge I have a mother like her," she had never heard such a harsh tone of voice come out her mouth.
The wolf nodded, and tried to wriggle away.
Andromeda sighed. "You can go," she said, "but you must promise not to fight anymore. If you do, my rebellion will show no mercy. We will defeat Cora."
The wolf jumped up, scampering away. Andromeda dusted herself off, continuing her quest to head towards the North-East Tower.
