"Bye mummy!"

Ellie waves from my arms as Judy leaves in my BMW for her first interview since she arrived in London. Thank heavens!

Grateful that she is finally starting to shift the gears, I offer to take care of Ellie, who hasn't been a speck of trouble since she'd arrived, whilst Judy is interviewed by one of London's top fashion agencies.

Another day that Alan and I have given up our alone time - except for Ellie I didn't mind. She occupies herself sitting on the living room rug with miniature fairy figurines muttering sweetly to herself after breakfast.

"Poor little nipper," Alan says, putting down his coffee mug and folding his arms, leaning back against the counter.

"I know," I sigh. "Probably doesn't have a clue what's going on."

We watch her for a moment continuing our analysis.

"I think she's probably smarter than you think," he observes. "Children usually are with their perception of energy. She'll know. Saying that, their resiliance is far greater at this age, but that's not to say she isn't feeling the effects of being uprooted from Paris to London."

His sudden child philosophy intrigues me, and dare I say it, makes me swoon a little as the ol' maternal cogs make themselves known and that's before Alan goes over to her, perching on the arm of the couch.

"...And who's this?" he says, picking up a tiny plastic fairy in his large hand.

Ellie turns around, smiling and hangs on Alan's foot in a playful manner, singing her name, "Her name is Truuuddeeyy...she's the princess."

Alan's attention toward Ellie is undivided, invested in her little world of make believe which he'd surmised was her escapism from her parental issues. Watching Alan get down to her level and seeing her small hands in his presenting each named fairy, was incredibly heart-warming. In fact my heart swelled so greatly that my smile was unavoidable. It gave me the warm fuzzies all over. It's the first time I've ever really seen Alan interact with a child in such a way, and as a result I seem to be immensely turned on maternally. It feels...unfamiliar, and yet so natural.

I bet he'd be a wonderful father, a voice inside says, but just as a whisper.

Just then Alan's phone rings and he leaves Ellie with a ruffle of her curls to take the call in his office. Last night's suspicions seem to kick in and I follow after him to listen in, the other side of the door.

"Yep...yep, no problem..." I hear, "I expect the entire set will be green screen by now," he chuckles.

Oh, it's work related. Stop being stupid, Rebecca.

"...No no, all is good. I'll be there. Alright, thanks David, take care..."

Alan comes back through mentally juggling projects.

"Harry Potter?" I ask.

"Yeah, it was David (the director) - 2nd December - first casting call. Darling, I just have to go and make some more phone calls, why don't you take the little one out for a few hours until your sister comes back? I'm sure she doesn't want to be cooped up in here."

Alan tells me to take his Mercedes, and following an arranged meet up with Isabelle, my closest friend – you may remember our days at Pellici's coffee shop – we leave to indulge in some Autumnal fun. She has a daughter now, three years old called Sophia. Time flies and I don't see her as much as I used to being as we no longer work together, but when we do meet up, we find that nothing has changed. We still rabbit on just as we used to and fill each other in on the latest happenings in our lives.
