chapter four : the first letter

TSUKKI WAS ABOUT to back out of the whole 'secret-admirer' thing altogether. As he was walking to school, he kept glancing at the envelope hidden in his jacket. He didn't even notice when Yams started to trail him.

"Good morning, Tsukki!" He called and Tsukki almost jumped out of his skin, closing his jacket harshly.

Yamaguchi eyed him. "You okay..?" Tsukki ignored him and his racing heart.

Yamaguchi sighed and glanced at his friend's jacket before letting it go. "Anyways, how's you and Y/n going?"

"I-- huh??" Tsukki gave his friend a confused glare. Yamaguchi just smiled.

"It's obvious you've never had a crush before, Tsukki, because you're not the best at hiding it..." Yamaguchi called his friend out and Tsukki couldn't help the heat rising to his cheeks. Had he really been that obvious? He couldn't remember doing anything that drew attention...

Yamaguchi placed a hand on Tsukki's shoulder, much to the taller one's annoyment. "Tsukki, I've known you since, like, forever, and you've been acting up around Y/n lately. I saw you at the park."

"Were you stalking me?"

"No, you were supposed  to wait for me." Yamaguchi rolled his eyes. "I was just catching up, but I did see something."

Tsukki had noticed that Yamaguchi was growing more talkative and outgoing since joining the club and he didn't know if he was for or against it.

"Did you now?"

"Yes, and I have a feeling that whatever you're guarding in your jacket is for her."

Tsukki sighed. Yams wasn't going to let it go anytime soon, so he might as well show him. (He just doesn't want to admit he genuinely trusts Yams.)

"I didn't take you for this kinda stuff..." Yams commented as he held the slightly worn-down envelope in his hands. "Do you... How are you going to--?"

"That's what I don't know yet." Tsukki sighed, annoyed that he had to admit that.

Yams grinned. "Leave it to me, she'll never know it was you or me."

Tsukki gave him a look before relenting. It was better if he wasn't caught and if Yams could do it, then he was satisfied.

.

During practice, the group was discussing possible strategies while in games. Then, before training continued, there was a restroom break. Everyone bustled around, taking their break. Yams spied you and Kiyoko talking with Noya and Tanaka hovering closely. You were distracted.

Now if there's any suspicion, there's the entire team as possible suspects... Yams thought. He was taking this seriously. He found your bag right by the door and as he slipped outside, he shoved the letter in and disappeared.

Tsukki watched him. He honestly didn't expect for Yams to pull that off, but he did.

Now, he waited.

.

"Bye everyone! Make sure to rest up." Daichi told the team before they parted ways.

"Aww, I'm not sleepy though..." Hinata whined.

"Me too." Kags huffed and they both looked at each other, communicating. Then the two left together, to probably practice more.

You shook your head at them, waving bye to the rest before heading home with Kiyoko.

"Full day, huh?" You said. She nodded.

"Well, the prelims are approaching so it makes sense that they would want to practice non-stop." She yawned, tired.

The moon was high in the sky, its glow encompassing the whole area. The stars around it made the night perfect. You inhaled deeply, enjoying the beautiful sight.

You collapsed once you were in your room, your adrenaline highs coming to an end. You opened your bag, surprised to see an envelope. You scrunched your eyebrows, confused.

You gingerly took it in your hands, seeing a lone heart on the front. Pulling out the contents was a breeze as it was only one index card. It had a few words scribbled across it;

I like you way more than I had planned.

You stared at the card, reading it over and over to make sure you had the right idea. You exhaled in disbelief. This was... for you? From who?

You turned the card over and inspected the envelope. No name was signed.

Hmm. You thought. Your heart was fluttering wildly and you were giddy with happiness as you showered for bed that night. Someone liked you.

You just needed to find out who.
