A/N: I started writing this at the end of 9th grade, it is almost the end of 10th grade and I've only worked on my story a couple of times throughout the year. This is a rewrite of the first chapter and is out of script form. I will still be rewriting and reworking the first chapter until I enjoy it.
Planet Vegeta, years after Frieza has been defeated by Super Saiyan Bardock. Inside a quaint little home, there's a little white table that a little, young woman is sitting at; sewing. In barges two little boys.
"Welcome home, Raditz and Kakarot. How was training?" She smiles as the older boy looks angry at his little brother.
"Kakarot refused to train again." Kakarot looks annoyed at Raditz and sticks his tongue out. Gine looks a little disappointed in Kakarot.
"Why's that Kakarot?" Though, it seemed she already knew the answer, as this wasn't the first time Kakarot had done this. Kakarot looks down. "Well, you'll just have to tell your father why when he gets home." And on cue, Bardock enters looking tired and already annoyed.
Bardock groans as he hears Gine. "Tell me what? Is this about something Kakarot did again?" He was really done with his youngest sons bullshit.
Gine shakes her head, giving him an 'I'm tired of this too' look. "Well, why don't you ask him?"
Raditz scoffs "I don't think Kakarot is going to tell you. He's more stubborn than you." He stares at Kakarot's expressionless face.
"Well, I'll beat it out of him if I have to!" Gine jumps between Bardock and Kakarot.
"Please, Bardock, no violence. You're already so beat up from your last battle. So how was your last battle? Did you scare off those Outa-seijins?"
Bardock puts down his fist. "They put up a fight, but we've defeated them. Now, please Gine, let me talk to my son." He gently pushes her out of his way as he makes his way towards his son. Kakarot hides between Raditz, who walks out of the way for Bardock. "Kakarot, again? You cannot keep doing this. We aren't training you for no reason. Being a warrior race means that we are proud. I cannot have our family shamed for having a weakling in the family."
Kakarot keeps a tough face as he glares at his father, crossing his arms. "Isn't mom one of the weaklings you talk about? Didn't she refuse to fight?"
"It's not about her. There may not be people around to protect you, like there are for your mother. If you don't train, then you'll grow weak. "
"I don't give a shit I will never fight for this planet!" Bardock turns red, about to slap him. Gine interrupts them, seeing Bardock's rising anger.
Gine puts her hand on Kakarot's shoulders and goes to his level. "Kakarot please-" but stops as she sees the dead look in his eyes, worry replacing her face.
It's silent for a while, until Bardock decides to speak up. "Enough of this! I no longer want to hear of you skipping training. From now on, you'll be training with me. Tomorrow will be your first lesson, now go to your room and rest up!" Kakarot grunts and then rushes out of the room. Gine places her hand on Bardock's shoulder. " Why does he make it so hard? Why does he refuse his people?"
"It's that planet he was sent to when he was a baby. Something must have happened." Raditz sits down, looking to where Kakarot's room is.
Gine picks up her sewing needle, continuing her stitch. "But he was only there for a couple months. There was so little time for anything to happen."
"But there was enough! Mother, he was there for 8 months. When we found him, he was in the care of that old man. Maybe he did something to him!"
"How would we find out if he did? Go back to Earth and beat the information out of the man?" Bardock chuckles, his anger demeanor calming down.
"We can try."
[Kakarot's room]
Kakarot looks at himself in his mirror, his blank look bothering him. He tried to conjure up a smile, but failed. His blank look returns as he goes to sit on his bed. Raditz enters the room.
"Don't waste your time." He looks down at his hands.
Raditz takes a seat on the bed, his hand ruffling Kakarot's hair. "You seem distant from everyone..." Raditz breathes out a chuckle. "Sometimes I think we picked up the wrong baby. It's almost as if we picked up an Earthling instead."
Kakarot looks at Raditz. "What's an Earthling?"
He realizes he shouldn't have said that. "It doesn't matter! Ummm, I- Just, listen to Father, okay? Just do what you're told to do. It'll save you some trouble."
The younger boy scowls. "Oh shut up! I don't care what Father says. I don't care what anyone says!" Kakarot gets off the bed, about to leave the room. "I'll leave this place. I will find more about these Earthlings and live among them. That is... if they're still alive." He whispers this to himself.
