The next morning I woke up after what was the most peaceful night's sleep I've had ever since I moved to Manhattan. Something was off. Cause I didn't smell the usual stench of misery in the apartment. I smelt something strange...Bacon and eggs.
"What the heck is happening?" I asked myself as I got out of bed and wheeled myself out of my room.
Uncle Frank was cleaned up and sober. The apartment was clean and he was making breakfast for the both of us.
"Am I still dreaming or did I die sometime yesterday because I know this isn't real." I said.
"No you're awake and you look alive to me. Listen I know I haven't been the best guy and I want to change. I want to be the uncle you deserve." He said
I looked at him confused and scared at the same time.
"Yeh. No. I'm definitely dead or something like that." I replied him.
"I'm serious" he said.
He was serious. I could see it on his face. He shaved his ragged beard and combed his short brown hair and even for once brushed his teeth. He looked like a real person for once.
I looked into his brown eyes and I saw he was genuinely willing to change.
Did my wish just come true?
He even looked like a decent person. I swear this was freaking me out.
"Okay?" I responded him having failed to properly understand the situation.
"I understand this must be confusing so just let me give you a ride to school and here's some lunch money." he said as he took out his wallet and handed me some bills.
I reluctantly took the cash.
"Thanks for the offer but I'd rather walk. Still have ptsd from..." I said to him then grabbed a strip of bacon and left the room.

At school
"Kate, you will not believe what happened today at home." I said to her with a gleaming smile.
"What happened?" she asked now curious.
"My uncle is acting hella weird. He was saying some nonsense about wanting to change and wanting to be a better uncle." I told her.
She gave me a confused look then smiled.
"Isn't this what you wanted? Why aren't you giving him a chance to change?" she asked.
"I... I don't want to give him a chance because I know he's gonna let me down and with all that's happened I don't want to add that to the list of things I want to deal with." I told her.
She looked at me silent and just nodded.
The rest of the day at school went by quite fast. I kept to myself and I didn't see the jackasses who called me an attention whore but I didn't really care about that. Something felt sorta off about today. Not just the whole Uncle Frank situation.
It all just smelt fishy but I shrugged it off.
What's that saying about a gift horse?

Fifth period (Math)
Earlier I was wondering why there was an abundance of nice people at my school or rather lack of the demons I usually deal with on a daily basis. The announcement I heard during Math class confirmed ny earlier suspicions.
"Attention school. I have an important announcement. It seems as if four of our students were found dead behind a convenient store. The police assume it was a robbery gone wrong. I ask for a moment of silence for them." Principal Jacobs said over the intercom and at that moment my heart sank.
There it is. Pretty sure I should've checked that gift horse.
After that announcement no one really cared about class or prom or anything. The energy in the entire school had changed. I felt everyone's depression. Their sadness was like a massive shield that surrounded the school.
Though people didn't really know or like the dead students. The sadness still loomed over the school and it affected everyone. Everyone but me. I don't know why I didn't care. Yeh the news was sad but I wasn't even the slightest bit disturbed or upset.
I'm not some heartless monster or something like that but I don't know why I couldn't feel the way everyone else felt. Maybe I'd spent so much time being sad I was just numb inside or maybe I just didn't care.
The rest of my day was honestly a bit hazy. A blur. I barely remember anything that happened after the announcement.
I had it set in my mind that aside from the fact that four students were dead this was just another day.
Same shit different day
I thought and man was I wrong after school was over I was completely drained and I went home directly I didn't even bother to wait for Kate like I usually did.
I got home went through my usual motions and when I entered the apartment I was greeted by sound of thousands of flies and a gut wrenching stench.
"What died here?!" I said out loud before noticing the decomposed body on the floor in the apartment.
I screamed.
Next thing the place was swarming with cops and paramedics. It was my uncle he was dead.
Typical. The one day he actually tries to be a good guy and he kicks the bucket.
The cops asked alot of questions most of which I couldn't answer.
"When was the last time you saw him?" they asked. "Do you know of anyone who'd want to hurt him?" they continued asking.
I shrugged and they talked to the csi guys. The weird thing was they said he'd been dead for at least a few days but I just saw him this morning so that made absolutely no sense.
"Hello. Um. I just talked to him this morning and he was fine so what do you think happened to him?" I added.
They scratched their heads unsure of what to say.
"We-we'll let you know what we find but in the mean time do you have a place you can stay until we talk to social services?" They asked.
I nodded.
"We'll need the address so we can drop you off there." they said.
It was weird seeing them wheeling him out of the apartment in a bodybag what's more weird is I missed the alcoholic son of a bitch.
So after they took my statement they dropped me off at Kate's house.
"Sandy. I--" Kate said as she hugged me.
"It's okay. I'm just glad I get to stay with you." I said trying to steer the conversation away from all the talk of death.
She gave me a sad smile.
"So how'd the whole diary thing working out?" Kate asked me out of the blue.
I shrugged.
"I don't know just wrote in it the one time." I answered her as I took out the book.
Kate opened it and flipped through the pages.
"So did you write in invisible ink or something?" Kate said to me.
"What? What do you mean?" I said to her a bit confused then took the book from her.
I flipped through it and Kate was right. It was blank which was weird because I vividly remember writing that last entry.
"Hmmm weird," I said out loud."Maybe Frank read it then ripped a page out."
As I looked at the book I began thinking if all of what happened today was connected and what the hell happened to the page I wrote on.
Not gonna lie this was probably the weirdest day.
