When Genevieve arrived at the town, it was oddly enough, empty. You could hear the wind rustle the dry leaves of the trees nearby. She frowned. Usually there were people out at this moment, talking and bustling about. Shops weren't open at all. She furrowed her eyebrows and dropped her weapons off at the armory and walked into the courtyard, looking around to see any signs of life.
Usually Robin was out, gloating to people about how he could change the town from Vaisey's torment because he assumed the position of sheriff. She smiled inwardly and proceeded to search for anyone. Nothing. Until her eyes met those of whom she wanted to see least of all. Guy. His dark hair cascaded over his sharp blue eyes and a smirk played across his lips. She noticed a bright red mark on his cheek from where she had struck him.
He was the only person here. She narrowed her eyes and approached him. "What did you do?" She snapped and he shrugged.
"I don't know what you mean, Nottingham." He said in a cocky tone.
"You know damn well what I mean, bastard, now where is everyone? Or what did you do with them?" She asked accusingly.
He seemed amused with her accusations and crossed his arms over his chest.
He didn't speak another word.
She grabbed his collar in her fists. "Listen, unless you want another red mark on the other side of your face, I suggest you tell me where my husband and my people are." She said through grit teeth and he shook his head.
"Your threats don't sway me anymore." He said and she smirked.
"I didn't say I would be the one to slap you." She said and he seemed shocked and confused.
"Who else would?" He asked and she raised an eyebrow.
"You know who I can get to slap you. Again, I am the only person that she trusts right now. She will do whatever I say." She said with a small smile and let him go and he sighed.
"Walk into the castle and you'll find out. I wasn't invited to the gathering." He said with a low growl and stalked off, leaving her stunned and confused.
She opened the double doors to the castle and noticed every villager and noble man for miles gathered around a table, facing the doors. Grins plastered on their faces and Robin at the head, walking ahead of everyone to greet her.
"Happy Birthday, Genevieve." He said with a smile and she had totally forgotten that it was her birthday that day she widened her eyes in shock and looked around at everyone that gathered around a cake.
She was speechless. She couldn't even remember her own birthday how could Robin have possibly remembered?
She was beyond happy with everyone in the room and her anger from the previous interactions with Guy seemed to fade into oblivion.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and let a few tears of joy leak out of the corners of her eyes and his arms wrapped around her body and lifted her in the air, spinning her in a small circle before letting her down on the ground.
Her white dress was brimmed with the brown dirt of the Earth as she had worn the dress too many times in the woods and other dirty places.
She approached the table and hugged various friends that she knew from the outlaws camp. Kate pulled her aside, she was the only one that didn't look happy. She pulled her away from everyone so she could speak to her alone.
"Genevieve you may not realize this but Robin is going mad." Kate spoke and Genny tilted her head in confusion.
"What do you mean?" She asked and Kate sighed.
"I overheard him in his counting room just earlier today. He was yelling at his guards when they said that they couldn't collect taxes from the people Loughborough couldn't afford it." She said. Genevieve couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"Are you sure it was him you were hearing?" She asked and Kate nodded grimly.
"Without a doubt." She said and Genevieve grimaced. She didn't want to believe that he was changing but she knew that a sickness was growing within him at the power that he consumed. She knew he was always one to be cocky and gloat a lot but he never did anything to overuse his power.
"I'll talk to him." She said and with that she walked off.
As this went on inside the castle, outside, Guy strolled around in the pale moonlight. The white light of the moon making his dark jet black hair shine like silver against the dark setting.
He noticed another being staring up at the glimmering stars just ahead by the stables. He called out to them.
"Linda." He spoke softly and she turned around, she had gotten used to being called now.
"Yes, Guy?" She asked and turned around to face him. A small smile lit up his naturally grim features.
"You weren't invited to the party either?" He asked and she tilted her head.
"What party?" She asked.
"The one for... Nevermind." He said with a shrug and she decided to let it go as well.
"Are you alright?" She asked him with a small frown and he sighed.
"Nothings been alright since I've started making horrendous mistakes. I don't even control my own actions. Its like something takes over whenever I'm talking to Genevieve." He said and she tilted her head and laughed slightly.
"Well I do hope you're enjoying my misery." He said with a chuckle, which caused her to laugh even harder as she stood next to him.
"I'm sorry it just sounds quite rediculous." She said. "But you never fail to amaze me Sir Guy." She said with a cheeky grin and rested her head on his shoulder. He looked down at her with a smile.
This was how it was meant to be with him and her and for a second, he forgot that she wasn't the Linda he married, that she was still his and forever his.
