In 1942, the President of the United States gave an order to evacuate all residents of the Pribilof Islands to mainland Alaska for their own safety. Dimitri didn't understand why his family had to leave their island, and now he and his family are trapped, forced to live in houses not fit for pigs are slowly dying of starvation and disease. Well not him. His people, the seal hunting Aleut, have survived for hundreds of years before the white men came. He's going to find a way out, to help his family, to be something other than just another refugee. But he doesn't realize that outside the camp walls, the war is the least of his worries.
