@MinervaGalilei · i haven't been on Wattpad for so long bc of life (was actually thinking of leaving) and this is the first thing i see after checking my notifications—you have no idea how much seeing this meant to me. even though this is an older work of mine (and one that i am currently debating whether to revamp again or not) it is near and dear to my heart and knowing that people are still connecting with it? even though i haven't updated in the past two years? ty, ty, tysm <333

so i have been musing on whether to get back into writing Those Who Speak In Dreams in time for the Wattys (despite the fact that there are no black judges, smh), and this book came across my feed. a sign, perhaps?

anyway, i've decided to enter and see what comes of it, since i've always been more comfortable with small contests like these. i'd encourage all of you to at least look it up and see if it would be something you'd be interested in joining <333

when i originally drafted this a month ago, i was supposed to open this announcement by wishing all of my Muslim followers Eid Mubarak, like i had promised at the beginning of Ramadan.

somehow, saying those words doesn't feel exactly how i thought it would, mostly because i know of many right now whose Eid experience is going nowhere near how they had planned.

i am angry. i am disgusted, i am saddened, sickened, but most importantly i am disappointed. no one, especially not Palestinians, deserve the ethnic cleansing that is happening in Palestinian, Israeli-occupied land. no one deserves to have their house taken away from them, their belongings destroyed, their families torn apart. and despite this, many celebrities and influencers choose to stay quiet and ignore the suffering. ignore the hurt. ignore, ignore, ignore, while Israel is slowly reducing everything that the people of Palestine have known to ashes. reducing them to no more than "neighbors" in this supposed "clash" over "religion."

Israel, no matter what it claims otherwise, is treating Palestinians the same way that Nazi Germany treated their Jewish citizens. alienate them, restrict them, discriminate against them, and then snatch the ground out from beneath them and watch as they wither away.
the fact that, despite this, Jews and Judaism survived, is a point of pride for Jewish people everywhere. as it should be. but we promised, long ago, when the dust settled and the Jewish people limped into exile, that we wouldn't let it happen again.

we have let it happen again.

so during this Eid, as you remember the prayers that have been answered and the blessings received, remember that in Palestine, the prayer is half-answered. it is our responsibility to ensure that the other half is answered, not because it will garner praise or we will be applauded, but because it is the right thing to do. and we know it.

@Wondar ^^^ i totally agree—faith is definitely something that you need to have during these times and, tbh, seeing the Palestinian people hold on to that, no matter what religion they may be, has strengthened mine as well. i know there's a verse in the Quran that says 'verily, with every hardship comes ease,' and that's so encouraging because it reminds me of a verse in the Bible where it says (i'm paraphrasing) 'weeping endures for a night, but joy comes with the morning.' those two keep me grounded, as it were, and i pray that Palestine will be returned to her children and that next time, maybe, i can make this announcement without it being so bittersweet <333

are black folks really out here on social media going after a child who died in the Holocaust by calling her a "colonizer" and "mid" and saying they didn't particularly "enjoy" her diary and that it was a "letdown?"

i'll just say that if it was a young black girl who wrote an account of her experience during slavery before being brutally killed by slavehunters or her own "master," y'all wouldn't be out here talking about how it wasn't "enjoyable" or so happened to be an "average read" for your weekend.

hate to break it to y'all, but IT WASN'T WRITTEN FOR YOU TO ENJOY. it's meant to educate.

@ESJohnson woooowww I’m not on Twitter either and this kinda makes me want to stay off of it. I’m pretty sure my head would burst open in a fiery volcanic explosion. I really don’t get where people come up with this sort of absurd logic. SMDH

Ramadan Mubarak to all of my Muslim followers—stay prayerful, stay hydrated in between fasts, and stay safe during this ongoing pandemic. i hope each and every one of you gets your heart's desire during this month of fasting and prayer (if God wills it, of course), and i hope that i'll be able to wish all of you a very happy Eid at the end.

          God bless <333
