Happy Friday, everyone! A handful of announcements today:

          	1. Chapter 4 of The Selkie's Alpha is up! Jasper is absolutely exhausted after meeting with the other Alphas, but now that a certain someone is brining him a present, things might just start looking up for him <3

          	2. The rules for this years Wattys are live! I've been going back and forth a bit about how many stories I want to enter, but at the moment I think I'll be entering 3 stories (The Bee's Knees, Rat Song, and The Selkie's Alpha). It's entirely possible that might change depending on how heavily I'll be able to polish my loglines and synopses before the deadline, but we'll see.

          	3. I took all of next week off work since my birthday is on Wednesday. I have no idea if this means I'll be around a lot more since I'll have more free time or a lot less since I know my mom has a lot of stuff planned to spoil me rotten, but in any case, the next chapter of The Selkie's Alpha will be up at the usual time (6 AM EST next Friday).

How many of y'all are planning to enter the Wattys this year?

Happy Friday, everyone! In this week's chapter of The Selkie's Alpha, we get to meet Jasper's fiancée and her father. The former grew on me a surprising amount while I was writing this story, so I'm extremely curious to see what you all think of her.

Huge thanks to everyone who's been reading The Taste of Home! It's been number 1 in the #asexual tag for a few days now, and it's been ranking pretty well in #paranormal too. It's absolutely wonderful to see so many of you enjoying that story <3

Happy Friday, everyone! The first chapter of The Selkie's Alpha just went live. It's my first ever dual POV story and is probably the closest I will ever write to a stereotypical Wattpad story (although considering The Taste of Home is probably the second closest to fitting that description... take that with a grain of salt LOL).

If you like grumpyxsunshine romances, beach reads, and ace rep, this is the story for you!

@DomiSotto yup! It’s complete offline, so it’ll be nice not to have to stress over anything besides polishing the logline and the synopsis

Hiya, hope you are well!

I wanted to ask, when you first started writing, what process did you use to improve your writing style, like language, themes, character voice, etc.?

If it isn't too much trouble, I would love to hear any advice you have!

Thank you for your time :)

@sandydragon1 That's excellent, thank you so much!

I never really thought about flash fiction as a method of practice, definitely going to use that!

Thank you so much for the advice, I'll definitely implement these into my stories! :)

@Dannayy342 Hi! The main thing that helped was practice, but I also took notes on how other stories handled those things (with a mix of stories that handled them well and others that didn’t do well).

Writing flash fiction also helped a lot since I used those very short stories to experiment without having to worry about committing to a particular element that I might not know if I would enjoy working with in a longer story.

For language, I like to use figurative language that’s related to the story’s topic like food similes in The Taste of Home. It helps give stories a cohesive feel and is something my readers seem to really like p.

In terms of character voice, establishing a very striking personality trait or quirk asap helps a lot. You’ll have plenty of time to flesh them out and add complexity later, but that first impression is crucial for setting up the reader’s expectations and making your characters memorable.

For those of you who haven’t read it yet, The Taste of Home is a mxm paranormal romance between a two chefs: a chupacabra and a human. If you’re hungry for ace rep, found family, and lots of cooking, this story is a recipe for a good time!

This week's short story is entirely too fitting. Work has been kicking my butt all month, although thankfully I'm not *quite* as much of a workaholic as one of the characters in this story.

Best of luck to everyone wrapping up their ONC entries! There have been a lot of absolutely amazing ones this year. I've especially loved the three (yes, really!) that @-DeeIsDead- wrote. I always love seeing magic mixed with the mundane in creative ways, so the idea of magical perfume being used to create complex illusions in A Scent of Chaos was especially cool to me.

Feel free to let me know all about your favorite ONC entries! I'm a huge sucker for novellas, so it's always so fun to see what people come up with for ONC.
