[I didn't initially intend for it to be but it turned out like a kind of prequel for my previous poem
"to the forgotten undines"]

oh! amicable and just seas,
grand me my freedom if only for a night
for my eyes are now blind by the purest love a fair maid can dream of
my dear selkies lead your sister out of this watery plight
I beg of you, sympathise with my fight
and I will return to you every other daylight
when the sun has barely risen
and the sailors on their beds not yet arisen, my tail shall grow once again
and if I'm to turn to foam,
if love is not what I'm shown,
don't weep for me sisters for I will only be back home
on my way to roam far away and unexplored lands
alas allow me this childish endeavor at last
and if I don't return as I am made
immortalise my foolish heart in the ocean's vast.
