THE COGS AND INNERWORKS OF THE MACHINE BEGAN TO THRUM SLOWLY.  LITTLE CHIMES RESONATED THROUGHOUT THE  DARKENED SPACE.

Small whirring pushed into a singular point. A  suspended  needle, glowing like ichor swayed  dangerously.

The needle dropped.

Eyes fluttered open suddenly.

A  left eye blinked.

A right eye twitched.

The room was silent.

Alifa shot up to a seated position.

Only her head then proceeded to move.

then right,

then left again,

and right once more.

She scanned the unfamiliar- familiar surroundings.

She was all alone.

Stillness.   Silence.  Serenity.

The window in the room was wide open, the curtains flowed. No sun shone through.  The skies were dark and dreary.  An air of melancholy wove through the room, filling the absence she  suddenly felt.
