A Heart on Hold
Ah, those halcyon times I do recall
When doleful skies shed winter's pall
And sentiments of hopeful love
Appeared on every retail wall
Images of lovers on a river, canoodling
Of lovebirds perched together, swooning,
Candy and flowers, the favourite gift
Hopeful beaus. eager an mooning
A scheduled Cupid, his arrow aimed
At the recipient already named
To send a message to her smitten heart
Its smouldering fire of love enflamed
Ah, those halcyon for me are gone
My courting days now past - all done
Yet Valentine memories still remain
Of the heart I loved, wooed and won
