Chapter 10: Don't Hate Me

Tails heart is swelling with anxiousness. He just came out to the guy he wanted to date, the pressure was so intense it was starting to make him queezy. Sonic needs a moment to process what's happening, after all he did smash him while they were both intoxicated. The silence from the hedgehog makes the fox figety so tries to get up and go cook, Sonic grabs him by the arm and sits him back on the bed.

"S-Sonic... I'm hungry. C-Can I get something to eat?"

"How long have you known..."

"K-Known about what?"

"That you liked guys"

"... A while"

"Okay... I still have more questions though..."

Tails whimpers and rushes out of the room. He wipes his face, trying to hide the tears as he shuffles down the steps, he was afraid. Afraid Sonic wouldn't look at him the same ever again, afraid he might leave him, abandoned him like his family did. It would destroy him from the inside out if Sonic left him, the thought of it all was making him dizzy, so dizzy he fainted. Sonic hears Tails hit the floor and makes a b line to him.

"Tails!" Sonic shouts.

His face is warm and hes mumbling to himself. Sonic carries him up the steps and lays him on the bed, Tails groans and looks up at the hedgehog who's looking through the box of medicines. When he finds the fever medicine he gives it to Tails.

"What's wrong? Are you okay?" Sonic asks frantically.

"I'm scared" Tails whimpers.

"Of what?!"

"You... You probably hate me"

"Tails..."

"It's fine if you do..."

"Tails, stop..."

"You can go back if you want"

"Tails! I don't hate you!"

The fox gasps, Sonic sits him up and squeezes him tightly, "Don't ever assume that I do. I'll care about you no matter what"

The crumbling feeling in his chest is slowly but surely going away. Sonic sniffles and let's him lie down again.

"You're not gonna leave me?"

"Of course not! I'd worry too much about you!" Sonic answers with a grin on his face.

Tails sobs and starts to cry again. Sonic rests his head on his shoulder and comforts him letting the little kitsune fall apart next to him. The moment reminds him of a similar incident he had when he was younger growing up on Christmas Island... One he remembered all too well.

Sonic and Tails both take showers so they could clean their dry smelly bodies. Tails changes the sheets on his bed and then he goes down to pack his bag and get ready for a day of exploring. However Sonic runs by, snatching Tails bag and putting it back where he picked it up from.

"Sonic-"

"Tails, I'm thinking today you should just relax and kick back" Sonic says.

"Oh come on, I'm fine"

"Your hand is still twitching" Sonic says looking at the hand that was holding the bag.

Tails tries to hide it by covering his hand.

"Look... We had a long day yesterday... I think it's time for a break. A long one" Sonic proposes.

"Mmmm, fine... 2 days" Tails responds sheepishly.

"That's it! Take it nice and slow. Even I gotta take a break every once and while" Sonic says with a goofy smile on his face.

Tails looks away from Sonic the moment he smiles, it's the same kind of smile that made him gush, the same one that got him excited. This confused Sonic...
