little known fact -
my feet are gross.
they're hardened with time,
callused in all the places
where i used to get blisters
from all the trail running
in the heat of the summer.now i don't get blisters,
because i've built up
thicker skin
in all the places
that used to ache so bad
and puff with acid-like substancei've built up protective walls
in the areas that
used to be soft.
i don't hurt as much
as i used to, don't go crying
to those i used to confide inyes, the summer is still
as hot as it used to be,
and the trails haven't gotten
any shorter
or less rocky,
but i've made myself
firm.i grit my teeth
through the pinprick pains
and swallow the sobs
when those built up
layers are ripped
apart.mommy's not always
there to bandage your
blisters, so you
have to learn to
toughen up and
play the world smart.because though the pain
never ceases to exist,
you'll eventually
callus your whole
self
until there's nothing left
that can tear down your layersnothing left
that cares enough,
anyway
