Prologue

In the year 2175, a Hegemony science vessel was detached to an uninhabited exoplanet in orbit of star RN-06 in neutral space. What they awakened there became known to Terran and Grushan worlds as the Black Ship. This is the Terran story of the reign of terror of the Black Ship, told through never before heard recordings and transcripts of news broadcasts, diary entries, vlogs, and declassified military transmissions from the Terran Interstellar Authority, the Novan Stellar Navy, and the Federal Grushan Star Fleet. Some portions of the story have been poorly recorded; these have been reconstructed to the best of our ability. However, every part of this story is true, insofar as it may be derived. We write this in memory of the millions who lost their lives in the conflicts that ensued, as well as those who have no voice, and to the veterans and survivors. May this document help to bring understanding between cultures and worlds.

So, this is a story that's been bouncing around my head for a number of years. Recently I was inspired to write it in full, and to my surprise, I succeeded. What you are about to read is the second, improved draft of that story; I wrote draft one in a matter of five to six months, and I'm publishing here as I make much needed revisions to the original manuscript. I think that this story has a lot of potential, and I'm excited to see what people think of it. Since I'm in the process of editing, feedback will be absurdly welcome; I want to know what you like and what you dislike, what works dramatically and what doesn't, what you want to see more of and what you never want to see again. Please keep that in mind while you're reading, and leave a comment or tell me what you think as you go.
