BACK HOME

Then times,
We were like twins of a gazelle,
In series of wars and at the dinner party after victory.

You were my other half,
Like the right and left hand,
You bathed me and I bathed you.

I wished you well,
When you were on the sickbed.

And in your fight for freedom,
I remember covering your shadows
from the sun.

I served you living waters,
when you thirsted for death.

I told you not to stop believing,
Because I will stand with you,
In the rains of cats and dogs.

But what you have done now,
Rolihlahla Africa,
What you have done
Have wounded me,

I must say,
It will be hard for us to
go back to our old days.

The days when you were able to kiss me and take my innermost coat,
Rolihlahla Africa,
The moon has slept
Over our sun—I am going home.
