+ Ricky paced around nervously in the narrow and dimly lit corridors of the hospital. Jake was bouncing his right leg impatiently. Lucy had fallen asleep on his shoulder. They had cut their date short and rushed to the hospital. Carlos and Seb sat in silence with Kourtney and Big Red had gone to the cafeteria to get something to munch on. He didn't know what exactly had happened, they had all arrived like an hour ago.
Mama C came out of the room and scanned the corridors and spotted Ricky, and gestured for him to come inside. He almost sprinted to the room. He went in, scared of the sight he might see. Mama C stood near the doorway when he went closer to the bed. Nini was asleep, a blood stained bandage wrapped around her head and a thick cast covering her right arm. His heart broke into a million pieces seeing her like this.
Why Nini of all the people? he thought to himself sadly. He intertwined his fingers with hers and stood there sadly looking at her when a tall and young looking doctor came in. 'Mrs. Salazar-Roberts ?' 'Yes that's me' 'I'm Dr. Cameron. Nina's vitals seem stable. Her concussion should disappear in a few hours. Her right wrist is fractured so I wouldn't recommend adding pressure or using the right arm temporarily. You can take her back home by evening at the most.' he said, smiled at them and handed her an envelope and left.
Ricky then spoke up 'What happened? How'd she fall?' Mama D entered the room. Mama D replied 'Nini was headed to the park to meet you there. She was skipping down the stairs, humming a tune like she always does and she tripped over something and fell down 3-4 stairs and hit her head and arm to the doorstep. He helped us get her here.' she said and pointed towards a boy sitting in the corner, scrolling on his phone. Ricky hadnt really noticed him until Mama D pointed out. He lifted his head when he felt someone staring at him. He had raven black straight hair and green eyes. He stood up and walked towards them. 'Is she okay?' Mama C replied ' She's gonna be discharged soon.' 'Oh thank goodness.' Ricky was sure that he had seen this boy somewhere.'I'm sorry but do I know you?' Ricky asked. 'I'm EJ, I go to East High.' he replied and went out of the room. Mama C and Mama D headed home to take some rest and come back.
Ricky sat down, scrolling through his phone when he saw Nini's eyes flutter open. He kept his phone back inside and stood next to her bed.
