Brock was special. He held a very special place in your heart. He left a Brock sized hole that only he can fill when he left for Vancouver. You didn't know what the future held for you, but you knew that Brock's future was bright and full of success.

Brock💙 : I'll be in town next week, we should get coffee or something.

You never talked with Brock that much. There were the occasional texts of congratulations, happy birthdays, and good luck texts. And oh yeah, the "I'm in town" texts.

But they always gave you a warm feeling inside when you heard his ring tone. You didn't change it, even after getting new phones throughout the years his was always different from the others.

There were also a few times over the past few years he's been a professional athlete, where he would call you on his way home from a game. Typically after a game they lost. He can't explain it, but there was always something about you that made him calmer, especially after a loss. There was something about you that made everything in his life better.

Yes! Will you be here Thursday?

Brock💙 : Yeah. Is the morning or afternoon better?

Morning. 10 sound good?

Brock💙 : Sounds perfect. Wanna go to our usual place?

Yes :)

Brock liked your message. You felt a sudden wave of anxiety rush through your body- why though? It's not like Brock was someone you met off of tinder. Brock was someone you've known since the eighth grade. He was your first friend when you and your family moved to Minnesota.

You introduced him to great music, and he introduced you to what love feels like. Brock might not have been his best at telling the people in his life how much he appreciates them, but he was always so good at showing them.

You waited anxiously over the next couple of days, anticipating getting to see an old friend. It feels strange to call Brock a friend, though. He was always more than a friend to you. He was family.

You waited in the small booth in the corner for Brock to walk through the old door that squeaks. Hearing the bell chime, you pick up your head and you see him duck under the frame slightly and look around, to find you sitting in the very back. Brock makes his way towards you. Standing up to meet him, he engulfs you in a big bear hug.

"It's so good to see you," he greets, letting go only after you did first.

"You too, how was the flight down?"

"Not too bad. I get to have the aisle seat now that planes can't have full capacity." Brock took his coat off and folded it next to him, getting comfortable in the booth.

A waitress comes over and takes your orders; you can't help but grind your teeth at the way she's flirting with Brock. You never liked it when girls flirted with him and you could never understand why you didn't like it. It's not like he was yours.

"So...are you excited for the season to start?"

For some reason, you could feel some tension between you and Brock. It's not like this is anything new; you've gone out to get coffee or lunch with him thousands of times. Why is this one different?

"Oh for sure. It feels like it's been forever since we were out there on the ice." The waitress brings your drinks to you, and with a smile and a wink directed at Brock she leaves.
