"No, you move"

I found you again in the dark.
In the corner of my bedroom, you sat and watched me sleep.

Then you followed me outside and into the sunlight.
Merged with my shadow,
Another intimate part of me,
And bonded with it so well he did not want to let you go either.

So I did the obvious thing.
I stayed out of the sun; no more shadows
And turned my lamp on in my room but out of my direction.
I managed to avoid you for two days.
Two whole days, until I noticed I had not eaten in two days
Or showered
Or moved
Or written a single line of poetry.
You were eating me from the shadow up.

When my first poem was about how I could not
Live my life in fear of you
Or pause it to keep you at bay
I did something for myself on day four.

And you returned.
I found you in the blades of grass by the river of my favourite park
I sat next to you and we spoke.
You told me,
"People walk over me every day, and yet I still stand."
In fact, I am growing."

I said, "Can't you grow somewhere else?"

The blade of grass became a tree.
You said, "No."
I stood up and planted my feet too,
"Well, I am not moving."

"No, you move."
