"If you want a lover, I'll do anything you ask me to and if you want another kind of love, I'll wear a mask for you." - Leonard Cohen.

"You look breathtaking Nina. A real life princess!" Her sister screeched at her clearly as mentally unstable as ever.

She cringed, moving away from the unstableness that was her sibling as she looked at herself in the mirror.

"A queen actually" she mumbled out.

"He said he won't settle for anything less." Was the whispered reply in the suffocating atmosphere.

"Vito." He snapped trying to get his stupid ass cousin to stop flirting with anything that wore a skirt.

He didn't raise his voice nor eyes flicker at the threatening command but saw his cousin stop and settle down, standing at his left side again.

"She gonna show up tonight Vinny or what?" His cousin mumbled clearly disgruntled by the fact that they were wishing four walls like fish in a barrel ready to be shot.

He didn't look at his cousin as he played with his shirt cuff as if fixing it. It was one of the things he did when he felt out of control and he was never not in control.

His Nina would show up soon. And if she didn't he'd find her, she knew that.

He craned his neck taking in the people here for the engagement party. It was more or less the same social circles they always had been part of, the elite, made men, senators, governors, lawmakers etcetera. It made no sense to him to have a party like this but he guessed it was all about saving face. After all he did take his wife him before marriage. And no one gossiped like a group of old Italian men.

She felt like her whole life had upended over a month. She went from trying to get her father to agree to let her go off to college like she had been for the past three years, to wife of the very man that controlled every stream in New York. She couldn't breathe, she didn't understand. She found herself feeling like she was on the brink of insanity as she was free falling into god knows what.

She look back at her sister who looked lost in her own world, rubbing her stomach as if she was either hungry or maybe it was the baby that she hadn't announced she was having yet. Her little niece of four years old gripped her mothers hand tightly and Nina couldn't help but wonder if she'd ever have something like that. Because like a damn fool, she had fallen in love with the man who promised to rain hell on her.

He hated it. He didn't understand it. The way he yearned for her, craves just to feel her against him, by his side. The warmth of her body. The smell that was all her and the hint of her perfume. The way she commanded the attention of everyone in the room without even realising. She was made for him and him alone. His. He ignored the thudding of his heart. Just as the room grew hushed.

He turned in time to see the doors open. Nina led by her father who glared at him. He glared harder, the tension between the two reaching levels of dynamite if poked. Her mother stood slightly behind her. And her sister, niece and brother in law following behind them. Behind them like buff bodyguards were dumb and dumber, or brothers Nina doted on stupidly. He didn't understand how they had an ounce of her loyalty when they couldn't even protect her.

But his eyes were drawn back to her like she was a siren. His felt the white rage consuming him knowing every man in the room not related to her was thinking the same thing. Nina looked like sex on legs but today it was more so than ever. The dress she wore in a pale duck egg blue hid nothing. Long tanned legs were completely exposed and he feared one wrong move and the part of her that was spelt his between her legs would be on show to the world. Which had him wanting to drag her out of here and keep her locked in a tower far away from here. A chain was wrapped around her upper thigh and he aches to pull it off with his teeth before moving higher and making her cry only for him.
